TUARAN: Datuk Kalakau Untol, the former Member of Parliament for Tuaran, feels it’s “Enough is enough! The people of Sabah are tired of endless political games that put coalition deals above the real struggles of ordinary Sabahans.
"Today, I call on Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) to make a clean and bold break from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)," he said in a statement here today.
Kalakau who is the Sulaman STAR Divisional Chairman, asserted that the people who were looking forward to GRS going solo are now very disappointed that GRS is now in partnership with Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).
“This deep disappointment is causing many supporters to burst out in anger in the social media. Should STAR keep delaying its exit from GRS, we are facing the real risk of losing supporters come GE17,” said the former Federal deputy minister of Labour.
“STAR was born out of the struggle for Sabah’s dignity, our rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and the voice of the common people who have for too long been sidelined by Kuala Lumpur-centric politics.
"But within GRS, STAR’s identity and spirit are slowly being silenced and drowned by compromises that do not reflect the heartbeat of the rakyat,” he said.
Kalakau also pointed out that Sabahans did not put their hopes in STAR only to see it become just another accessory to a coalition that puts individual political survival first.
“They want courage, independence, and leadership that speaks up without fear or favour. If STAR remains in GRS, it betrays those very expectations,” he further pointed out.
The veteran leader also expressed his disappointment with the stance by the PBS leaders who are still beholden to the coalition’s call for loyalty despite the obvious conflict of interest in having to work with PH and BN.
"I congratulate YB Datuk Seri Panglima Jahid Jahim on receiving his well-deserved SPDK award, but I disagree with his and other PBS leaders’ call to stick with GRS.
"PBS is now sacrificing its original 1985 objective of fighting for the rights and dignity of Sabah, betraying the nationalistic dream of Sabah’s indigenous communities," he lamented.
He also stressed that he is standing by his repeated statement in his podcasts that the covert motive of the Malayan parties’ bloc, sealed in the PH-BN agreement on July 27, is ultimately to dominate and control Sabah’s state administration and economic resources.
“The rakyat are restless. They want leaders who dare to stand alone if necessary, leaders who place Sabah first, not to bow to coalition deals which go against their desire to be free of Malayan party interferences.
“Staying in GRS is no longer an option if STAR wants to remain true to its founding struggle. Leaving GRS is not just about politics—it is about integrity, honour, and staying loyal to the mandate of Sabahans who entrusted STAR to fight for them. The moment STAR announces its departure form GRS, the people will reawaken to again trust and give strong support to it as the party of courage and conviction for a true historic struggle,” Kalakau further argued.
He said : “If PBS decides to abandon the PBSTAR merger or collaboration, let STAR move on to fight by grouping with other local parties".
“It is an opportune time for STAR to rise again, to stand tall and independent, and to show Sabahans that it will never sell out the hopes and dreams of the rakyat!” he added.#~Borneo Herald™
