Sabah bleeds under Umno hegemony

The happiest political entity in Sabah is destroying the socio-political fabric of the multi-ethnic state.

by Luke Rintod of FMT
KOTA KINABALU: Can a local Sabah party candidate actually win an election without Umno’s help?
Umno’s one-time formidable partner PBS (along with its spin-offs Upko and PBRS) is no-longer significant on the political front.
In fact, the trio of Umno proxies – PBS, Upko and PBRS – now share the humiliation of being further sidelined by their domineering and condescending peninsular-based master.
Umno is now quite simply the happiest political entity in Sabah.
Such has been the dominance of Umno that for many years not a single Christian Kadazan-Dusun-Murut (KDM) has been appointed to the top seven posts in the Sabah hierarchy.
So much for the “fair” power-sharing formula of the Barisan Nasional (BN). It is a topic that has dominated PBS and Upko’s coffee table conversations of late following the elevation of the State Legislative Assembly Speaker to the post of governor and another Umno member to his former position to replace him in quick succession.

Who is behind the two new ferry operators for Labuan - Menumbok ?

By Ezra Haganez
KOTA KINABALU:
Finally Sabah Government relented over the monopoly issue of ferry service plying Labuan - Menumbok route, revealing that two new operators had in fact been offered to carry out the service, alongside long-time player Labuan Ferry Corporation (LFC).

Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan, in announcing this said the two operators could commence its sevices from Friday (January 21, 2011). However they must first accept certain "conditions" the State laid out in the offer, which Pairin refused to disclose as yet, for them to get their landing rights in Menumbok which is under state jurisdiction. Ferry service permit falls under the Federal Transport Ministry.

It appeared that one obvious condition is for all three operators to allow for both human passengers and vehicles on their ferries, something LFC is carrying out now. People closed to the business claimed that the other conditions would have to be to provide for a fair competition among the three operators.

Lately Pairin had been blamed by Labuan DAP for foot-dragging over the allegedly "inadequate" service of the sole existing operator.
On this, Pairin said: "Such matters need thorough study and we are doing something, we are not neglecting our responsibilities..."
According to Pairin, the state cabinet at its recent weekly meeting decided to allow three operators for the route to create for a more competitive business which eventually satisfy the expectation of all consumers.

Of new Malays and the old Malayans

Written by a Malay
Please read it out to your aged parents or grand parents. They would bless this Malay guy who penned this article and who is the nation's one true hope & saviour with principles, dignity & a role model on justice & fair play !

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's father is one example of an English language teacher from India who came to Malaya and eventually married a Malay woman, resulting in the birth of Dr Mahathir.

Many Indian and Chinese immigrants married in Malaya , sometimes to fellow Indians and Chinese and sometimes to local Malays (that is why many Malays look more Indian and Chinese compared to their Indonesian cousins). And understandably they sired children born in Malaya.

1Malaysia or 1Malay ?

1Malay or 1Malaysia
Malay, Chinese and Indian are all Malaysian brothers and sisters.
But BN has screwed Malaysians and Malaysia up.
Malay 1st…. Malaysian 2nd
When a Malay, Chinese and Indian, all Malaysians, apply for:-
1) Scholarships, Malays will get it first irrespective of bright Malaysians
2) Entry to the local universities and bestcourses such medicine, dentistry, law, Malays will get it first irrespective of quality. Residential hostels, Matriculation courses, MARA Uni, Malays will get 90% to 100%. (By the way, matriculation exams are internally set by own lecturers - about thousands of straight A’s students in Matriculation compared to the straight A’s STPM which are few. This is “Malay meritocracy vs Malaysian meritocracy”!
3)   Social Welfare, Malays will get it first irrespective of how poor the Malaysian rakyat is

The nomination of a non-Catholic head is the first in the history of the academy founded in 1603, according to I.Media, a news agency that specialises in religious information.

Evidence mounts over John Paul II beatification

Benedict XVI AP – FILE - In this Nov. 2, 2010 file photo made available by the Vatican's L'Osservatore Romano newspaper, …

By NICOLE WINFIELD, Associated Press Nicole Winfield, Associated Press – Thu Jan 13, 1:26 pm ET

VATICAN CITY – Evidence is mounting that the pope will soon approve the miracle needed to beatify Pope John Paul II, setting the stage for a major celebration this year for a Catholic Church trying to recover from the clerical sex abuse scandal.

Italian news media have been reporting that in recent weeks Vatican-sponsored panels confirmed that a young French nun was miraculously cured of Parkinson's disease after praying to the Polish-born John Paul.
Pope Benedict XVI now must sign off on the miracle and set a date for the beatification, the first major step to possible sainthood.

The failures of Dr Mahathir Mohamad

In The Star today it was reported that Dr. Mahathir admitted that one of his failures during his 22 years as Prime Minister was his administration's inability to rehabilitate and develope Kampung Baru. What a gracious leader to admit his failures. Well, since the old man started it and since we Malaysians love lists let's continue where he left off.  Come on. Add to his list of failures. Put your contributions in the comments section and I will update them here. Have fun!
He failed to improve the Education system of Secondary and Universities in this country. Actually it became worst!

He failed to improve the economic status of most Malays in this country. Proton is still crap! Corruption became worst!! Police force is a joke! the only bigger joke in this country is our Courts and Judiciary!
Boo-hoo-hoo...sniff...sniff...I failed!

He failed to save his son's venture in Konsortium Perkapalan? Oh wait, wait, he did.

The most tragic failure of mahalingam's rule is his failure to commit suicide to spare us his sham tears. Kg Baru would today be developed if his family had been given half the land.

He failed to make Ringgit stronger than Sing dollar.

With his superb acting ability and ethnic background, this mamak failed to go to Bollywood. He would have made a good kerala clown.

He failed to develop incentives and a process that would encourage talented Malaysians and Expats to stay and contribute to this country's future, and their counterparts overseas to return.

I can't contribute to your list of his failures, but I can list some of his

When crucifixes and hymns at the St John's Cathedral disturb PM Najib

If you wish to come to my house, you don't tell me to do things to offend God!
If things in my house should offend you, don't come at all; it's that simple!
Lame excuses. If the guys did remove, they do not deserve any respect.
PM's aides orders St John's Cathedral to remove crucifixes and banning of singing hymns at St John's Cathedral constitute a violation of religious freedom guaranteed under Article 3(1) of the Federal Constitution

By Dr Chen Man Hin (DAP Life Advisor)

The excuse given by the PM's aides that the crucifixes would be offensive to the Prime Minister while visiting the church and grounds borders on the ridiculous.

Malaysia has diplomatic relations with many Christian countries in the West, South America and the Phillipines. Crucifixes decorate many public buildings in these countries. Would the aides issue orders to Christian countries in the West and South America to take down or remove the crucifixes when the Prime Minister of Malaysia visits the said countries?

Church buildings and grounds are sacred areas to Christians especially Catholics. Crucifixes are sacred. So are the religious rites and singing of hymns. Forcible removal of crucifixes in churches would constitute an act of sacriliege. The orders by the PM's aides are therefore sacrilegious.

Sabah The Next To fall?

Wednesday, 12 January 2011 admin-s

By GM, Penampang, Sabah.

With the next General Elections looming, Pakatan Rakyat Penampang has shifted its efforts to capture Sabah into overdrive. Spearheading the campaign to topple the ruling elite is PKR Penampang’s information chief Mr. Honorsius Bosuin. Now that the storm has settled in PKR, members are stepping up their efforts to win back public support that was damaged by the alleged PKR election frauds, the exit of Zaid Ibrahim, as well as the Dr. Jeffrey saga.

It cannot be denied that Dr. Jeffrey’s departure has left an impact on PKR/Pakatan Rakyat Sabah; however, I would agree that the impact is minimal as mentioned by YB Saifuddin Nasution. Word on the ground is that people have been wary of Dr. Jeffrey and have anticipated that what happened was coming as he cannot stay in a political party for long and history has repeatedly proven this. We wish him and the United Borneo Front (UBF) all the best in their future struggles.

Prevention is better than cure.

Keep Walking.....

Jus to check this out......
The Organs of your body have their sensory touches at the bottom of your foot, if you massage these points you will find relief from aches and pains as you can see the heart is on the left foot.

Typically they are shown as points and arrows to show which organ it connects to.

It is indeed correct since the nerves connected to these organs terminate here.

This is covered in great details in Acupressure studies or textbooks.

God created our body so well that he thought of even this. He made us walk so that we will always be pressing these pressure points and thus keeping these organs activated at all times.

‘Anwar lied to Sabahans in 1994 too’

Luke Rintod of FMT
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has advised Sabahans not to be swayed by Pakatan Rakyat coalition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s “irresponsible” 100-day election promise.
Vice-president Herbert Timbon Lagadan reminded Sabahans that it was “Anwar who coined the 100-day promise of Sabah Baru” or a developed New Sabah back in 1994 to dupe Sabahans then.
“It is an irresponsible election ploy by Anwar and Pakaatn.
“Such an act is a sign of desperation on the part of the opposition which hoodwinks the people and promises anything although it knows it cannot deliver, ” said Timbon, who is also Kadamaian assemblyman.
“Every Sabahan still remembers Anwar’s fiery speeches during the 1994 state election; he raised false hope and pledged loads of developments within 100 days of taking over the government of Sabah.
“At that time Anwar was deputy prime minister and minister of finance… such is a mark of a man who is willing to believe his own lies and who is on the verge of lunacy,” he said in a statement today.

‘Usno and Berjaya govts took better care of poor’

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP has conceded that the previous Usno and Berjaya state governments had better and more effective policies which helped alleviate poverty and improve the economic status of the natives in the state.
Placing credit where it’s due, state party chief Jimmy Wong said the “Usno and Berjaya governments had done something unique and interesting”.
“For example, the low-cost housing started by Usno involving only six posts was laughed at by many (at that time) but today these six-post houses are sitting on premium lands and have become expensive properties.
“We can at least praise Usno for lifting the economic status of the people.
“As for the Berjaya (governemnt), it started giving away 15 acres of land for every Sabahan.
“This was a brilliant policy and today those people who received, retained and planted oil palm on these lands are much better off than many people working in the city and towns.

Sabah PKR hot seat a poisoned chalice?

Luke Rintod of FMT
KOTA KINABALU: If the gasp of surprise is any indication, newly-appointed Sabah PKR top man Pajudin Nordin has jumped into a hot seat and bets are on as to whether he will last long in the post.
The stakes are high and the expectations even higher given that even PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim didn’t last more than a few months as Sabah state chief before he relinquished it to Azmin Ali, who in turn lasted for only a few weeks before handing the reins to Ahmad Thamrin Jaini.
Thamrin was heavily criticised for “non-performance” or failing to come up to the expectations of his peers, a charge that he disagrees with.
“Qualified” people, such as former PKR vice-president Jeffrey Kitingan, a Harvard scholar, were sidelined as they were believed to be not good enough to head PKR in the second-biggest state in Malaysia.
Now Pajudin, 42, not even a divisional head, has been entrusted with the task of leading the state by party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Perhaps, a more pertinent question is whether Pajudin will be able to perform better than all his predecessors, including recent leaders like Thamrin and Ansari Abdullah.

Ansari's proxy, 'ustaz" Pajudin Nordin of Tuaran is Sabah PKR new head

By Ezra Haganez
KOTA KINABALU:
Little-known Pajudin Nordin, 42, of Tuaran is Sabah PKR's new chief, replacing the heavily-criticised for under-performance Ahmad Thamrin Jaini.

The Arab-speaking Pajudin, who is fondly addressed as "ustaz" among his friends here, was announced to the post by PKR President Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur Sunday.
Pajudin, a trained teacher, graduated in "tahfiz wal qiraat" at Saudi Arabia's Maahad Syubro. He has held the posts of deputy principal imam of the state mosque in Kota Kinabalu as well as a deputy registrar at the Jabatan Hal-Ehwal Agama Islam Negeri Sabah (JHEAINS).

Also announced Monday was the state PKR's new Woman Chief, Lukia Indan, the party former candidate for Kadamaian state constituency in Kota Belud in the 2008 general election. She replaced Shaukinah Yusof.

Imagining a nation? Not in Sarawak

The student of politics naturally assumes that the nation state is the most natural and the most logical destination in the journey of a group of people with a shared past and a common destiny. By and large, the nation state is deemed as a rational development in the politics of a people struggling for legitimacy.

This is not always the case. In Malaysia, the idea of a people united by a common history, language and a shaped destiny has come under severe strain from the linguistic, racial and religious tensions of a divided people.

The situation is even more confusing in Sarawak, because of the diverse historical and ethnic composition of the people. There have been many pre-existing, ready-made divisions within Sarawak society, and the preoccupation with the politics of race has muddied Sarawak's political waters even further.

In his monumental work entitled 'Nations and Nationalism', famed scholar Benedict Anderson has proposed that the most basic impulse of nation-building is one centred around the imagining of 'a people', based on the people's national roots. Very often, a common language is an anchor of such an ethnic project.

Stop all these COVER UPS and WHITEWASH!

by Din Merican

On December 30, 2010, I posted Tan Sri Robert Phang's New Year's Press Statement because I share his wishes and hopes for all Malaysians that God's Blessings be upon all of us, that we become a truly 1Malaysia natiostarted, that wish was immediately dashed yesterday when the MACC Corruption Prevention Panel Chairman, Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, declared that the MACC Board members and Panel Advisers were satisfied with A-G Gani Patail's explanation of his recent haj pilgrimage to Mecca with Tajuddin's proxy, Shahidan Shafie.

Ramon said that the MACC Board and Panel members were satisfied with A-G Gani Patail's explanation and found that there was no need to investigate the allegations. That is indeed amusing.

Overzealous Ramon Navaratnam should resign

In short, the MACC Board and Panel members had cleared A-G Gani Patail without even investigating the allegations. Ramon's statement and clearing of A-G Gani Patail without an investigation violate the very cardinal function of the MACC as set out under section 7 (b) of the  MACC Act, which is  to detect and investigate:

i) any suspected offence under this Act;
ii) any suspected attempt to commit any offence under this  Act;
iii) any suspect ted conspiracy to commit any offence under this Act.

Save our daughters, sisters, wives from rape

Fifteen years ago when I was arrested and charged with publishing false news for a memorandum send to the government on the abuse, torture and dehumanised treatment of migrant workers in immigration detention centres, one of the charges I faced was the issue of rape of women in the detention centres.

In Indonesia, one of our partners investigated and documented five testimonies of women migrants raped at the camps. They were willing to testify.
Unfortunately and suspiciously, the office of our partner was raided and the files went missing. It was difficult to track the women and I lost my witnesses.

I did not lose hope. Together with one of my very committed lawyers, we went to Bangladesh to interview witnesses.

SNAP joins forces with Jeffrey

KUCHING: Sarawak National Party (SNAP) has thrown its support behind Jeffrey Kitingan’s United Borneo Front (UBF).
Confirming the party’s commitment to the UBF agenda, SNAP president Edwin Dundang said : “Their (UBF) demands are in line with the Malaysia Agreement.
“As far as I understand, one of the things Jeffrey wants to do is establish a conformity agreement with us to ensure that what was agreed to when Malaysia was formed must be followed.”
Admitting to having met Jeffrey, a former PKR vice-president, in Miri recently, Dundang said SNAP was “party to the Malaysia Agreement” in 1963 and it will now “be a boon for Pakatan Rakyat and the two-party system in Malaysia.”
“SNAP was a party to the Malaysia Agreement and I can say proudly that without SNAP there can never be Malaysia at that time.
“SNAP’s peaceful rise will be a boon for Pakatan and the two-party system in Malaysia,” he added.

DAP UPSET THAT UBF IS TAKING AWAY ITS SUPPORT IN BORNEO

The statement by DAP MP Dr Hiew King Cheu published last Tuesday asking Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan to stop confusing the people with his UBF agenda begs a proper response, because I feel it is regrettable that Hiew, being a Ph. D. can make such an error as calling the revelation of the truth as “confusing the people”. The question is, is Dr. Jeffrey really confusing the people?

This popular phrase, “confuse the people” has been used so many times by the Barisan Nasional that its meaning has been twisted, especially in its Malay version, i.e. “mengelirukan rakyat”. First of all, why is the BN so worried about the opposition confusing the people? Is the BN thinking that the people are entitled to only one version of the truth? Is the BN saying that only the ‘truth’ from the BN is true, and that any information and ideology from the opposition is confusing the people, and shouldn’t be accepted? Is the BN rejecting the free flow of information in this country although we have the Ministry of Information. If this ministry rejects alternative information, then it should rightly be called the Ministry of Disinformation.  The government-controlled RTM and TV3 cannot find the guts to tell the truth by showing the different sides the news. And what a loss to the people, because the huge amount of budget given to run the Information Ministry alone is actually money that belongs to the people – and they are denied the truth!

Jokes... of astronauts; indian/chinese/malay mentality

How much do you think you should be paid?"
Muthu replied: "One million ringgit."
"Why so much?" asks Dr. M.

PBS invites Jeffrey to join BN

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has thrown open its doors to Jeffrey Kitingan and other former PKR members and leaders following their exit from PKR.
PBS secretary-general Henrynus Amin said the open invitation to the groups was aimed at strenghthening unity within the Kadazandusun Murut community.
PBS, which is a component party in the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, is led by Jeffrey’s older sibling, Jospeh Pairin Kitingan.
Henrynus said the party was not surprised by the developments in PKR, adding that the exit of top Kadazandusun and Murut leaders who were disheartened by the way they were treated by the KL- based opposition party “speaks for itself”.
“There is no need to add more as Jeffery’s departure from PKR with most of the Kadazandusun and Murut leaders has reinforced lingering suspicions that all is not well within the opposition camp.
He added that PBS expects more PKR Kadazandusun and Murut members and leaders to quit the opposition party.
