ONLY in Sabah do we see a ruling band so entrenched in failure, yet so shamelessly organising a rally — not to answer for its scandals, but to demand applause for them.
The so-called “Bangkit Sabahan 2.0” rally, set for July 26, 2025 at Padang Merdeka Kota Kinabalu, is not a symbol of unity or strength. It is a political circus — choreographed by a ruling group already in free fall — to mask the stench of corruption, misgovernance, and betrayal.
Let us be clear: this rally is not about the people rising.
It is about corrupt leaders clinging to power.
1. What Are We Really Celebrating — Corruption?
Under the current administration, Sabah has witnessed:
The SMM corruption scandal, implicating high-level cronies and state-linked entities..
100-year timberland concessions quietly awarded to politically connected companies — robbing our children and indigenous communities of their land and forests.
The sabotage of the 40% revenue meeting — a historic negotiation undermined by the State Secretary’s Office failing to send a basic letter.
And now, instead of accountability, they organise a rally… to congratulate themselves?
2. Sabah Is the Poorest State — That’s the Real “Bangkit” We Need
Let’s talk about reality:
Sabah remains the poorest state in Malaysia, with the highest rate of absolute poverty and hardcore poverty.
Water shortages and disruptions plague nearly every district, from Penampang to Tawau, while billions meant for water infrastructure are lost to corruption.
Our roads are full of potholes, rural bridges are collapsing, and basic connectivity remains a daily struggle for thousands.
Unemployment is rising, especially among our youth and graduates, many of whom are forced to migrate out of Sabah for work.
Schools are dilapidated, some with leaking roofs, broken toilets, and no electricity — especially in rural indigenous areas.
Our public hospitals are overcrowded, short of doctors, and lacking critical health facilities — even as GLCs and cronies enjoy lavish contracts.
Is this the Sabah we are being asked to rise for? Or is this the Sabah that is being sacrificed for political survival?
3. There Is No Good Governance — Only Excuses and Spectacles
Let’s not sugarcoat it: under the current failed leadership, good governance is dead in Sabah.
No transparency in public spending.
No accountability in corruption cases.
No direction for economic recovery or youth employment.
No respect for the role of the rakyat in decision-making.
Instead of fixing what is broken, this administration invests in rallies, stage shows, and propaganda.
What Sabah needs is reform. What we’re getting is a memo of loyalty and a cheap festival of spin.
4. Bangkit Sabahan or Bangsat Politics?
The real “Bangkit” are the brave students of Gempur Rasuah 2.0 — who marched for justice, not for a contract.
This rally, in contrast, is:
A parade for failed leaders.
A show for rented supporters.
A distraction from a crumbling state.
Let it be known: this is not people power. It is power in panic.
5. Sabahans Deserve Better
We do not need more banners.
We need:
Clean water, not empty slogans.
Jobs, not endless appointments for cronies.
Healthcare and schools, not timber deals.
Dignity, not deception.
No rally can hide the truth.
No memo can rewrite history.
And no cheerleader can save a government that has already failed.
