Some of the 35 participants at the workshop at Golden Hotel in Sembulan, Kota Kinabalu today.

KOTA KINABALU : A well-known local activist, Dr Kanul Gindol, said it is disheartening to see Sabah continues to grapple with its "perennial problems" when Sarawak on the other hand has found "perennial paddy" to satisfy its rice need.

"Sarawak now has this "perennial paddy" but what we have in Sabah is "perennial problem" of water and electricity persistent disruptions, potholed roads, floodings, high unemployment and presence of transient population continuing to spiral," he said.

Dr Kanul who is also head of Gabungan Bebas Merdeka (GBM), a grouping of potential election candidates in Sabah, made this observation after he attended a workshop on a women's and youth participation in inclusive development and governance at a hotel here today.

The half-day workshop was jointly organised by Era Konsumer and Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas (DHRRA).

He said concerted and inclusive efforts should be carried out to alleviate Sabah's dire situation, and that the government of the day should welcome all to contribute ideas to solve its many problems.#~Borneo Herald™
