Did i misread this or did the Minister concerned tell the truth?
The allocation of RM70 million for a mere 1.5km stretch of the Lok Kawi–Papar road as announced by Minister Datuk Alexander Linggi and Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor a few weeks ago in Papar has raised serious concerns over transparency, cost-effectiveness, and fiscal responsibility.
At nearly RM47 million per kilometre, this price tag is vastly disproportionate to standard infrastructure costs in Sabah and far exceeds reasonable benchmarks.
It begs clearer explanation: what justifies such an extraordinary price? Are there detailed public breakdowns of materials, labour, land acquisition, and project management fees? Without full disclosure, this huge sum risks appearing unjustified and wasteful—especially when so many longer, urgently needed roads across Sabah remain unpaved, unsafe, or neglected.
GBM calls for open, independent scrutiny of this contract and full public accountability. Our infrastructure funds must deliver fair value and serve the people—not questionable costs on tiny stretches of road.
