Singapore Malays tell Malaysian Malays they are in excellent shape
By Guntor Sadali, a Berita Harian writer
SINGAPORE: It is a fact known to all that Malays in Singapore is a minority. However this minority is quite different from other minorities in the world.
Similarly, to some, Singapore is just a red dot in this vast Asian region. But it is no ordinary red dot.
It is a grave mistake to equate size with ability, just as it is wrong to assume that being small and in the minority is to be weak and insignificant.

2nd February, 2011
Press release
KUCHING – The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has been urged to save itself from the clutches of Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud and salvage whatever little dignity and pride it has left.
“SUPP must not be blind to the writing on that wall. For too long, the party has an image of being a mere stooge of Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud. To continue supporting Taib now will seal the fate of SUPP. The party will be buried in the coming state election,” Movement For Change, Sarawak (MoCS) leader Francis Paul SIah said here today.

Reliable sources said that Jeffrey had been in discussion with Setia president, Henry Sabagong Rumpit, for weeks ever since he left PKR on Jan 1, 2011.
The shameless conspiracy against Robert Phang

Robert Phang--MACC Corruption Panel Member
On Thaipusam Day, January 21, I called on all Malaysians to “Let us stand up for and defend ROBERT PHANG against ROGUES AND LIARS!” against the onslaught of the UMNO bloggers. I made that call because I knew that shortly the whole machinery of the government would be abused to hound Phang. I knew there would be an attack in concert to malign Phang to the maximum. I knew they would manipulate and fabricate to fix Phang.

KDMs ‘pulling rug’ from under Sabah PKR
ENTILIBON: Is Sabah PKR collapsing? It seems like it, at least as far as the “no impact” Kadazandusun Murut community is concerned.
Ironically, it is these people who were the backbone in PKR’s resurgence in Sabah over the last four years.
But the KL-centric PKR seems to be still in denial, going by its vice-president Fuziah Salleh’s recent statement.
Fuziah claimed that the resignation of its former vice-president Jeffrey Kitingan and officials of the party’s KadazandusunMurut Task Force has not impacted the party.

He was this morning acquitted of two counts of causing grievous hurt to A. Kugan while the latter was in police custody two years ago.

Navindran was acquitted without his defence being called.
Can you trust Anwar Ibrahim ?
By Wong Mun Chee
MALAYSIA: A simple recap, in 1972 he formed ABIM and served as their leader. In 1982, he surprised everyone joining UMNO. In 1993, he was made the DPM after forcing out Ghafar Baba. In 1999 after his incarceration, PKR was formed and the rest I guess is the new politics that we see today with the same old political agenda.

Recently, I came under personal attacks from various anonymous blogs after I raised concerns about public perceptions on a host of issues namely about the lack of action in the MAS Scandal; AG Gani Patail’s Haj Trip under suspicious circumstances; AG Gani Patail’s relationship with the former Chairman of MAS, Tajudin Ramli’s proxy, one En Shahidan Shafie; whether AG Gani Patail was compromised in his decision to not act on the recommendation of Dato’ Ramli Yusuff to institute prosecution against Tajudin and several others; about perceived selective prosecution; and also the attempt to clear AG Gani Patail of these allegations of wrongdoing without any investigation.

PENAMPANG: The Sabah government has the power to review its oil royalty contract with Petronas, according to United Borneo Front (UBF) chief Jeffrey Kitingan.
He said that the state government could also decide how much money it should get from the federal government-owned Petronas for the oil and gas derived from the state.
“The state government has immense power to review its contract with Petronas. The Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974 which effectively vests all petroleum throughout this country in one company forever, is itself amendable.
I was 'framed' by the police - victim's testimony
I am a victim of police's abuse. After reading the incident involving Chia Buang Hing, I don't know whether I should be happy and thankful that I did not do what he did. If not, I'll be ended up like him. This is my story. After attending a friend's wedding dinner, we carried on the celebration at one of the pubs in Ipoh Garden East, Ipoh. The party ended at around 2am. I was a bit drunk and decided to have a nap in my car, which I parked nearby before driving home. It was weekend and probably there were police roadblocks. There was also the danger of driving under the influence of alcohol. |

PRESS STATEMENT FROM UNITED BORNEO FRONT
“UBF: REVIEW SABAH’S PETROLEUM SHARE WITH PETRONAS”
25TH January 2011
Kepayan, Sabah—At a ‘Borneo Tea Party’ hosted by United Borneo Front (UBF) supporter, Andrew Joseph Tuining, in Kampung Ganang, Kepayan, UBF leader Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan suggested that Sabah’s petroleum share of 5% be reviewed.
In response to a question from a young guest as to how a unilateral decision could be made by the State Government to sign away oil rights to PETRONAS in 1976, Dr. Jeffrey confirmed that by the Petroleum Development Act of 1974, PETRONAS is granted the exclusive right in perpetuity to explore, exploit, win and obtain petroleum onshore and offshore in Malaysia; the rights, liberties, powers and privileges of which shall be irrevocable. In return for this, Section 4 of the Act states that PETRONAS shall make cash payments to the Federal Government and relevant State Governments (where oil is derived) as may be agreed between the relevant parties.

Guidelines For Muslims Celebrating Religious Festivals Of Non-Muslims
The 68th muzakarah of the National Fatwa Committee for Islamic Religious Affairs on April 12, 2005 discussed the Guidelines For Muslims Celebrating Religious Festivals Of Non-Muslims. The muzakarah has decided that:
In determining the non-Muslim celebrations that can be attended by Muslims, several main criteria should serve as guidelines so as not to contradict the teachings of Islam. The criteria are as follows:
- The event is not accompanied by ceremonies that are against the Islamic faith (aqidah).
The meaning of “against the Islamic faith (aqidah)” is a thing, act, word or situation which if conducted will lead to tarnishing the faith (aqidah) of Muslims.
For example:
- to include religious symbols such as the cross, installing lights, candles, Christmas tree and so forth;
- to sing religious songs;

Power rates can be 17% cheaper
LABIS: The Barisan Nasional government must reduce electricity rates by at least 17% to prove that it is not enriching its cronies at the expense of ordinary citizens, Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua said today.
“BN has long chosen to abandon the rakyat in the interest of its cronies” by giving independent power producers (IPPs) RM6.2 billion to RM8.1 billion a year in annual gas subsidies over the past five years,” he told voters here as campaigning for the Tenang by-election heated up.
“These subsidies allow the IPPs to make billions in additional profits.”
Pua rejected the argument often given by “these BN cronies” that the subsidies were passed on to consumers.
He compared Malaysian rates to those of Thailand. In both countries, natural gas makes up 70% of the fuel used for power generation. Because of the subsidies, the price of natural gas to Malaysian IPPs is 53.7% cheaper than the rate paid by their Thai counterparts. However, Malaysian consumers get their electricity at a rate only 8% cheaper.
UBF leaders paid courtesy call on James Wong recently; Dr Jeffrey on Lee Kuan Yew four years ago
By Nilakrishna James
KUCHING, Sarawak : United Borneo Front (UBF) leaders recently held an informal
meeting with Datuk Amar James Wong, former SNAP president and ISA detainee, to
discuss recent developments in UBF and SNAP party politics as well as the
genesis of the Malaysia formation.
Prolific author and poet, James Wong, now in his late 80s, has spent his life
determined to tell the truth about the formation of the federation and his book
entitled, “The Birth of Malaysia”, contains the key documents leading up to the
Malaysia Agreement in 1963, including the Malaysia proclamation by Tunku Abdul
Rahman, the Cobbold Commission Report and the Inter-Governmental Committee
Report in 1962. Unwilling to comment on the forthcoming Sarawak elections and
the future of the Taib regime, Wong discussed the UBF direction at length with
Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan and the issue of amalgamating various agendas between
different racial groups in Borneo.
Dr. Jeffrey, accompanied by Nilakrisna James and Zainal Ajamain, shared his ISA
experience with Wong which Dr. Jeffrey believes made them both ever determined
to tell the story of Malaysia to the world. “A former Malaysian Prime Minister
told me that I should not teach the people what the people don’t know. He
probably felt that ignorance would be a guarantee to the continual leadership of
the present regime. I decided to defy this and believe that knowledge would
empower the greatest amongst us and pave the way for a fairer system that would
reward those who rise through merit. James Wong and I have many things in common
and he is one of the last of the true mohicans,” said Dr. Jeffrey in his
statement.
The UBF leaders would promote Wong’s book, “The Birth of Malaysia”, in their
campaigns and will suggest to the government to make it a compulsory textbook in
all history courses in secondary schools.

Negara, not negeri, status for Sabah
Luke Rintod of FMT
KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah was supposed to retain its “negara” or national status in a series of arrangements to ensure that the rights of Sabahans would forever be protected during the formation of Malaysia.
This little known fact was revealed at a national conference on marginalised communities, which arrested the attention of the participants.
They were told that the ideals that gave rise to the birth of a new nation in 1963 have, however, been eroded until those rights have all but disappeared.
“Sabah was given the understanding that it was to remain a national entity within the Malaysian Federation, which was to be a partnership of four national units – Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore and Malaya,” deputy president of CigMa or Common Interest Group Malaysia, Daniel John Jambun, said in his presentation titled “Lest We Forget”.
Hindraf shocks Sabah, S’wak reps
Luke Rintod of FMT
Participants at an inaugural conference on the future of marginalised and minority communities get a shocking insight into the Indian community.
KUALA LUMPUR: Indigenous delegates from Sabah and Sarawak attending the National Human Rights Conference on the Future of Marginalised and Minority Communities in Malaysia were stunned when told of the conditions of the majority of Indians in Peninsular Malaysia.
Reacting to a paper presented by Hindraf national coordinator, W Sambulingam, one delegate from Sabah who declined to be named, told FMT: “I almost forget about my our own crippling conditions in Sabah.”
In his presentation, Sambulingam had described in detail, along with facts and figures, the striking conditions of the Indians in Malaysia.
He revealed that so depressed were their lives that suicide rates among the Indians were the highest at 21.1 suicides in every 100,000 Indians.
He also said that more than 30% of Indians do not own a house, compared to 25% Malays and 18% Chinese.

Malaysia is fifth in illegal money chart
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 — Illicit money outflows from Malaysia tripled to US$68.2 billion (RM208.1 billion) in 2008, from US$22.2 billion in 2000, according to a report by US-based financial watchdog Global Financial integrity (GFI) released this month.
The country also had the fifth largest amount of illegal money outflows between 2000 and 2008, among developing countries. GFI defines illicit financial flows as generally involving the transfer of money earned through illegal activities such as corruption, transactions involving contraband goods, criminal activities, and efforts to shelter wealth from a country's tax authorities, said the programme’s website.
The report titled Illicit Financial Flows from Developing Countries: 2000-2009 said that illicit financial outflows from Malaysia totalled US$291 billion (RM888 billion) in that period.
It said that the increase was “at a scale seen in few Asian countries.”
“The volume of illegal capital flight from Malaysia has come to dwarf legitimate capital inflows into the country in recent years,” said the report.

...Between a surgeon and a mechanic
Marvellous answer
A mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from the motor of a car when he spotted the famous heart surgeon in his shop, who was standing off to the side, waiting for the service manager to come to take a look at his car.
The mechanic shouted across the garage,"Hello Doctor!! Please come over here for a minute."
The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic.
The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked argumentatively, "So doctor, look at this. I also open hearts, take valves out, grind 'em, put in new parts, and when I finish this will work as a new one. So how come you get the big money, when you and me is doing basically the same work? "
The doctor leaned over and whispered to the mechanic.....
He said: "Try to do it when the engine is running ".

Citizens to Pendatangs
JAN 10 — I am no buff of science but remember reading about putting frogs in cold water and then slowly putting the water to boil. The frogs (unlike the Perak species) will die as they will be unaware of the change in temperature that will ultimately prove fatal. Dear Malaysian brethren of whatever ilk, we will suffer the same fate as the innocent frogs if we let the country spiral to another Iran or Pakistan.
I am in today’s parlance a 3rd generation pendatang. Lets call it GENPENTIGA — Generasi Pendatang Tiga. I suppose it can’t be that bad when a GENPENDUA became PM for 22 years. But then he metamorphed into a Malay and cut his Indian roots, only to go back to Kerala recently to see if there were any offshoots I suppose or perhaps some trait of mortality dictated that he visit his roots in his autumn.
I look at my children GENPEMPAT — Generasi Pendatang Empat — and wonder what place they have left under our sun. Should I leave them in the water where they are comfortable or kick them out of their “comfort water”? Old frogs like me might as well die in the Malaysian water anyway — we are fast reaching our “sell by” date.
