KUALA LUMPUR: PKR supreme council member Zaid Ibrahim has announced his withdrawal from PKR's heated deputy presidency race. The decision was made following the failure by the party's leadership to address accusations of electoral discrepancies in the contest for the coveted post despite persistent complaints.
[Reaction: Anwar's and Wan Azizah's]
He has also resigned from all posts in the party. He is currently the party's head of Federal Territories, and a member of the powerful political bureau and supreme council. He was also tasked to oversee the formation of Pakatan Rakyat's common policy.
Zaid made the announcement via a statement released in his blog at about 3am today.
Apparently dejected, Zaid repeated his accusation that the party's top leadership is conspiring to ensure a victory for Azmin Ali, the party's vice-president and the leading contender for the post.
Azmin is said to be the favoured choice of PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim.

Zaid statement withdrawing from the race of PKR number 2 post !
I wish to announce my withdrawal as a candidate from the contest of Deputy President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat and my resignation from all posts held in the party.
I was offered to join this party under the belief that I could promote enlightened and progressive politics; nurture and develop principled political values and culture that I consider indispensable to the development of democracy and good governance in this country. I was mistaken.
Over the course of the party elections, events have shown that the leadership actively condones malpractices and electoral fraud to achieve its designed objectives. I am certain that any political party with such hypocritical and false values will not be able to offer meaningful reforms to the people of this country.

2011 Budget analysis
By Syed Akbar Ali
Hot news versus one week later analysis. Well when sometime has passed we get more hindsight and more 'analysis paralysis'. I am just rounding it up and putting my two cents worth about the Budget 2011.
Today the Plus folks reveal that the five year postponement of toll hikes simply means that the Government has to pay Plus RM5.0 billion compensation. Plus the RM2.5 bilion unpaid compensation still owing to Plus by the Government, that is RM7.5 Billion of taxpayers’ funds. That is simply leaving money in the right pocket and paying taxpayers money to Plus from the left pocket. Apa beza sangat ?
There are adventurous ideas like building an RM5 billion 100-storey Warisan Merdeka by PNB. The PM said yesterday, somewhere, that the 100 floors of this building will fill up with offices and businesses, implying the 100 storey building means jobs and humming businesses. Well it does not work that way.
Frustrated Zaid wthdraws from race for No 2 post in PKR !
KUALA LUMPUR: Zaid Ibrahim, in his 3am blog broadcast today, announced he withdrew from the race to become deputy president of beleaguered PKR party. He cited tainted polling process and dirty tactics seemingly condoned by top leadership to ensure Azmin Ali wins as among reasons for his decision...

If there was a common thread in the speeches made by Umno leaders during the just concluded Umno General Assembly, it must have been the hysterical repetition of 'defending Putrajaya' at all 'COSTS'! BN/Umno appears to be on panic mode as public confidence on the Regime is eroding by the day.
PM Najib Razak will certainly call for a snap General Election within the next 6 months as the longer he waits, the more the support for BN/Umno will erode. The only way Najib can Neutralize Pakatan Rakyat and hence keep Putrajaya in the hands of BN/Umno is to do what his father, former PM Tun Razak did by wiping away Opposition gains in the 1969 GE by declaring a State of Emergency and suspend Parliament at the aftermath of the May 13 Tragedy in which the Opposition was blamed. When the dusts was settled, the Opposition saw itself losing power and Alliance / BN was able to get back to the status quo. It appears that PM Najib may just follow what his daddy did in 1969.
