PBS wants RCI on Illegals, only friendly request, not ultimatum

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Joseph Pairin Kitingan has called on the federal government to establish a royal commission of inquiry on illegal immigrants in Sabah next year as a sign of its commitment towards resolving the issue.

He said it was time the government took the matter seriously as requests on the issue had been made a while back.

"This is only a guideline but needs to be stressed on. Focus should be given on forming the commission to give assurance to Malaysians in Sabah.

PBS Mula Buka Mulut Mengenai Suruhanjaya Siasatan Diraja

KDMM a desperate attempt to entice KDMs to Umno

Datuk John Ambrose, as the founder and President of the newly registered KDM Malaysia (KDMM) has been making a lot of publicity about the new association. Immediately we can sense that, although it is an NGO, it is not your usual type of voluntary organization. Firstly, it unashamedly declared that it number one purpose is to get KDMs to support Umno. KDMM has no intention to go into cultural and identity preservation work for the KDMs. It aims mainly to break the KDMs further by enticing them to Umno, i.e. away from PBS, Upko, PBRS and the opposition. So Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan is right in saying it a tool of divide and rule by Barisan Nasional.

EC chief: See no Evil, Hear no Evil

By Aidila Razak
INTERVIEW Claims about the systematic granting of Malaysian citizenship to thousands of illegal immigrants in Sabah in the 1990s is the stuff of legends.

And like all good legends, evidence of such a happening may seem aplenty, but there is nothing to irrefutably prove that it had occurred.

At least, that is what former Election Commission chief Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman believes of the dubious operation popularly dubbed Project IC or Project M.

SAPP to raise SAS issue again in next sitting

TAWAU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) will again raise the Saham Amanah Sabah (SAS) issue in the State Legislative Assembly (SLA) sitting in November and call for a white paper to reveal who was responsible for the shares losses amounting to RM500 million.

SAPP Women chief Melanie Chia said it was an issue which the Barisan Nasional (BN) had not tackled and Tawau people were talking on the issue.

Ustaz's 1Malaysia Plan for East Malaysia...proselytisation

An alleged move to second 80,000 teachers to Sarawak could trigger social
implications, says Parti Rakyat Sarawak president James Masing.
SIBU: Is an alleged move by the Education Ministry to transfer 80,000 teachers from Peninsular Malaysia to Sarawak an insidious plan to “convert” locals?

If it is, then Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government is digging itself into an even deeper hole here.

Already, the majority Christian Sarawakians are seething at the Umno-led government’s high-handedness and arrogant dismissal of the Federal Constitution in relation to freedom to practise one’s own religion.

Land grabs: ‘Police colluding with company’

By Luke Rintod of FMT
Villagers in remote Sabah have accused police
of helping a company occupy their land.
KOTA KINABALU: The displacement of villagers is continuing unabated in remote corners of Sabah – out of the public eye despite claims to the contrary by the Barisan Nasional (BN) state government.

Yet another land-grab case has surfaced. This time, it is in Kampung Mapat and Kampung Mapad in Pitas.

The victims lodged a police report here yesterday claiming that police had assisted a private company, Syarikat Jayasama Sdn Bhd, alienate their NCR (native customary rights) land.

Billions spent on Sabah infrastructures, but how come not much improvements?

By Fredoline Edwin Lojingki
EACH year both the Federal Government and State Government announced hundreds of millions of ringgits for Sabah and in fact thousands of millions ringgits for the whole country for so-called rural development which focussed on basic infrastructures. What astonish me is little is felt here in many rural areas in Sabah. I have travelled to many parts of Sabah in recent times and i found it scaring to claim that those billions were ever spent for the Sabahan people.

No Thinking Muslim Support for Himpunan Sejuta Umat

by Dr. Ahmad Farouk Musa
3:15PM Oct 24, 2011
After much hype, the Himpun gathering at Shah Alam Stadium on Saturday was a non-event.  The dismal attendance of roughly 5,000 hankering souls was a total letdown from the expected one million.
Despite the claim that Himpun was a success by the organisers, it was clear that it was more of a self-reassurance. Himpun failed miserably in their effort to instigate thinking Muslims into supporting their crusade.

Gejala Rampasan Tanah Menghantui Etnik Bumiputra Sabah

‘Cease attacks on SAPP’

Lim Kit Siang has reminded Sabah DAP that their fight
is with Umno-Barisan Nasional not SAPP.
By Michael Kaung
PENAMPANG: DAP strongman Lim Kit Siang has directed party leaders in Sabah to bury the hatchet and stop the on-going war of words with fellow opposition member, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).
Lim, the DAP adviser, is worried that the quarrel between the party’s state branch and SAPP is distracting them from the real challenge in the 13th general election that could be called by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak any time now.

People's power and winning the battle for a future - S.Arutchelvan's paper presented in Australia

By S. Arutchelvan, Sec-Gen of Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM)

In Thailand, Malaysia’s neighbor - recently the Reds won the elections against the yellow. The Reds were mainly based in rural areas and from working class and farmers background but firmly also supporters of Thaksin – the former Prime Minister and telecommunication tycoon while the yellow were those within the elites, supporters of the royalty and the army and many of them are from the urban areas especially Bangkok itself. The NGOs and civil societies – a numbers of them stayed A-political and some call this group, “wait and see” while some lefties organization stood with the Reds because of their class characteristic as well as because they are seen as the democratic forces. The Reds have since won the elections but real reforms are slow to come. The Army and the royalty still very much in the picture.

Sabah’s right: Jeffrey disputes historian’s view

A Universiti Malaya professor claims that Sabah and
Sarawak cannot 'legally' secede from Malaysia.
KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian history professor DS Ranjit has come under fire in Sabah for declaring that the people of the state no longer have the fundamental right to self-determination as their legislators had surrendered that power a long time ago.

The Universiti Malaya historian, whose talk entitled “Sabah prospects and retrospect: The aftermath of colonial rule” here on Thursday, put forward the argument that the British colony which had joined Sarawak, Singapore and Malaya to form Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963, would never be able to legally withdraw from the union.

Why is BN afraid of white paper on SAS?

By Daniel John Jambun
We all know the protracted issue of Saham Amanah Sabah (SAS) which was launched on a share value of RM1 and then got reduced to 20 sen ("Cheaper than kueh pisang," as many people put it) and caused a loss of more than RM400 million involving 55,000 investors.

And it is still raging today, with certain groups, especially BN leaders trying to point their accusing fingers at Datuk Yong Teck Lee who happened to be the Chief Minister when SAS was introduced.

Utusan Must Apology To All Christian

UTUSAN'S allegation was then featured on the front page of Utusan Malaysia on May 7. Another blog ‘Marahku’ also carried the allegation, reporting a plan to make Christianity the official religion of Malaysia and for a Christian to be Prime Minister.

Tim Hii, DAP Sabah ApiApi Branch Assistant secretary, has called for Utusan license to be revoked as its allegations against Christians, have caused severe defamations to Christian Malaysians' good image.

Utusan had dropped a bomb, which could potentially jeopardize the peace and harmony we Malaysians have long enjoyed regardless of races and religions. Tim elaborated.

The reason Malays don't respect Sultans

The federal Islamic development agency claimed today that many Muslim do not respect the authority of the Malay Rulers who are heads of religions for their respective states. On the eve of a planned gathering of a million Muslims to defend the faith, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) prepared a Friday sermon that accused some parties of putting political interests ahead of the religion. “Many Muslims today do not respect the views and authority and in fact question the Sultan heads of the Islamic religious councils. The sanctity of the faith has been politicised and the split among Muslims has affected the function and role of the councils,” said the sermon titled “State Islamic religious councils drive the transformation of the faithful”.

NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin

Therefore, the opinion that Rajas should be placed under a Constitution that determined the status and role of the Rajas was born. With this method, the Rajas could no longer act as they liked. The powers of the Rajas would be determined by the Constitution, that is the country's basic law. Yet, there were Rajas who were willing to hand over their own states to foreign powers while ignoring the Constitution.

Although the representatives were free to speak in the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Undangan Negeri about any topic, but they could not touch on the Rajas because any criticism of the Rajas could be interpreted as sedition and they could be charged under the Sedition Act. This provision was a result of an amendment made in 1971. Before this, criticism of the Rajas could be made in the house. In Britain and other countries, the Parliament was free to criticize the Rajas. It is clear that that criticizing the Rajas does not destroy the Rajas' majesty.

While this prohibition on criticism is said to protect the Rajas' majesty, but when the Rajas are not criticized, they will not be aware of the wrongs that they have committed. Hence, maybe more wrongs will be committed and these wrongs may become more serious. This not only contaminates the Rajas' majesty but can also cause the People to hate the Rajas. It is not true to say the prohibition on criticizing the Rajas will protect the Rajas' majesty. Actually, the majesty of the Rajas will be contaminated because of this prohibition.
Unfortunately, because the Chief Ministers and Prime Minister are Malays that are unwilling to be on bad terms with the Rajas, when the Rajas do something that is not supposed to be done, no effective criticism is made. Even if there is, the unwillingness of the Rajas to care about the criticisms of these official advisers does not bring about any action towards the Rajas.

Hence, in the history of independent Malaysia, the actions of the Rajas and parties who hide behind the Rajas that exceed the rights and privileges of the Rajas become more serious over time. The possibility is that it will become more serious in the future. If there are no amendments to the law, like those suggested here, without doubt worse matters will happen that will cause the Raja Institution to be hated by the people. It is not impossible that if one day in the future, demands are made to completely abolish the Raja System although there are provisions in the Constitution.

Hence this amendment that is suggested aims to avoid or prevent the escalation of hatred towards the Rajas that could bring about demands to abolish the Raja System. This amendment is to save the Rajas themselves and the Constitutional Monarchy system. To strengthen the Constitutional provisions to maintain the Raja System, provisions are made such that any suggestion to abolish the Raja System will be interpreted as sedition and falls under Sedition Laws.

If Malaysia intends to become a country that practices Parliamentary Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy, the immunity that is given to the Rajas must be abolished. Because the Constitution in countries that practice the Constitutional Monarchy System doesn't give immunity to their Kings, the abolishment of the immunity of the Malay Rajas cannot jeopardize their sovereignty. In the modern era, only because the King can't commit crimes as they like, the King's status will not be jeopardized, especially in a country that practices Parliamentary Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy.

The interpretation of the sedition towards the King in the Constitution is so wide until no criticism is can be made in Parliament by members of the Dewan Rakyat or Dewan Undangan. Hence, the media also has no opportunity to report. Criticism can only be made by the Rajas' advisors behind closed doors. If this criticism is ineffective, there is nothing that can be done.

Actually all three former Prime Ministers, as advisors to the Rajas, have already criticized the Rajas many times while they were in service. I know criticisms have been made because this matter has been repeatedly reported in Cabinet meetings and also the UMNO Supreme Council.

It should be reminded that the respect of the People towards the Raja cannot be determined by laws. With your permission, 'Respect must be earned'. Having laws that scare the People will not bring 'respect'. With the realization that the Rajas can be brought to court, Rajas will certainly avoid committing acts that will cause the people not to respect the Rajas. Hence, the Raja Institution will be better respected and better preserved.

FTA will make foreigners overly powerful

Wikileaks: Controversial Squres Of Christian Books

The Malaysian Council of Churches immediately condemned the confiscation. Council Secretary Reverend Herman Shastri stated on January 17 that the government officials have "no right (to confiscate the Christian books) and have over stepped their bounds." Shastri argued that such actions offended the sensitivities of Christians, and he urged the government to take immediate action to stop enforcement officials from undermining inter-religious harmony.

Pakatan Rakyat MPs, irked by minister's response,

Despite denials of being linked to Umno, Himpun organisers were given super-swift access to a permit to hold their Gathering of a Million Muslims on October 22 inside a stadium in Selangor.

This is in sharp contrast to the long drawn out saga involving the Bersih 2.0 rally for free and fair elections, which was outlawed and ended up with Prime Minister Najib Razak reneging on his promise to allow the rally to take place in a stadium of Bersih's choice.

Land tussle: Temporary relief for Kota Belud villagers

Rumours of widespread land grabs by the authorities in
Sabah has put local native communities on alert.
KOTA BELUD: Villagers in two kampungs here received a temporary respite from efforts to survey and take over their native customary rights (NCR) land despite their objections.

The Sabah government, already under pressure over accusations of land-grabs across the state, was forced to backdown temporarily in a tussle with the natives over a large parcel of land in two kampungs that have been earmarked for an agropolitan project.

DAP needs to stick to Chinese areas

After the recent Sarawak general election, we have seen how the DAP managed to gain substantial number of new seats, causing an embarrassing upset for BN’s SUPP. This gain gave DAP a lot overconfidence and the party started thinking it could make inroads into the rural, native-majority areas. In a sort of a launch to spread its wings into the interior, DAP Sarawak ’s Dayak Consultative Council (DCC) organized a seminar to be held in Mile 17, Kuching on October 10, 2011 . The seminar was “aimed to prepare for DAP’s move from strictly urban Chinese-majority areas into Bumiputera and rural areas in the coming parliamentary election and to supposedly provide related consultative services to rural folk,” but embarrassingly, nobody turned up except for the organizers!

Dangerous precedence in Selangor Sultan’s involvement in the Damansara Church case

The decision to use the Sultan of Selangor to make decision with regards to the incidence of alleged proselytization at the Damansara Utama Methodist church dinner has set a dangerous precedence because of several reasons. I wish to express my worry about what’s happening in Tuaran. We cannot deny that the  district has developed quite a lot since independence in 1963. We have even seen how the district had produced a lot of leaders. It was the birthplace of the United Sabah Dusun Association (USDA) which had 80,000 members at one time. Tuaran was also the centre of the struggle of Pekemas with fearless and aggressive leaders like the late M. A. Rahman. Tuaran produced a charismatic leader in the person of OKK Indan Kari, who later became the governor of Sabah , then named Tun Hamdan Abdullah. We also had the famous Limbai Angkapon who would have been the Member of Parliament for Tuaran had he not died while campaigning, so giving victory by default to Buja Gumbilai in 1969.

UNHCR avoiding its responsibility to refugees – Australian and Malaysian refugee advocates

Richard Towle, Australian head of the UNHCR, was reported in the Fairfax press today as stating that ‘the assurances of legal stay and community-based reception’ in the Malaysia deal ‘can be seen as a more positive protection environment’ than detention in Australia, ‘provided the assurances are carefully monitored’.

Australia says NO again

Prime Minister Julia Gillard - Australia
Very few leaders in the world got the GUTS to say NO.
Australia says NO - Second time she has done this!
Australian Prime Minister does it again!!

It took a lot of courage for  this woman to speak, what she had to say for the world to hear. The retribution could be phenomenal, but at least she was willing to take a stand on her and  Australia   's beliefs.

The whole world needs leaders like this!

Budget a slap in the face for native farmers - Petanah

By Raymond Tombung
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Bumiputera Farmers and Rearers Association (Petanah) feels that the 2012 just presented by the Prime Minister is a huge slap in the face of native farmers in Sabah and Sarawak .

Its President, En. Gaibin Ransoi, in a statement here said he was shocked that, with all the many packages offered to Malaysians, the Prime Minister totally forgot the poverty-ridden farmers in the Borneo states. “It’s the same case year after year with the national budget,” Gaibin said. “There are incentives, gifts and additional benefits given to public servants and those already earning good salaries, but those who have no salaries and struggling in poverty like the farmers are forgotten and neglected.”

It is clear that the target groups for the RM 232.8 billion election budget for election purposes are teachers, civil servants, Felda settlers, military and police personnel and the Indian community. These are the voter groups that the BN is now trying to improve upon compared to the results of the last general elections in 2008.
