Suaram lodges police report against minister

The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has been accused of interfering with the investigation and prosecution of the business arm of human rights watchdog Suaram.

In a police report lodged today, Suaram coordinator R Thevarajan said Ismail had claimed that those behind Suara Inisiatif Sdn Bhd will be charged even though the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) were still carrying out investigation.

We, a group of youths who have been participating in the Malaysian democratic movement for the past 10 years, are outraged by the government’s persecution of Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM), the best known human rights organization in the country that is always at the front line to defend the people’s fundamental rights.

The malicious allegations against SUARAM clearly are baseless and hold no water. The Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Ismail Sabri Yaakob had abused his power to discredit SUARAM while the investigation was still in progress. It indeed is a trial of SUARAM by the media without going through a proper legal process and an infringement of the freedom of association.

The violent consequences of past artistic, literary and cultural aggressions against the sanctity of Islam and the prophet seem not to have taught us any lesson. 

 

The abomination against theism continues unabated. Claiming to be works of literature or the arts, the perpetrators have guised behind the cloak of freedom of speech.

The notoriety against Islam has been littered with the likes of Salman Rushdie's despicable Satanic Verses, through to the ugly Danish cartoons and the latest "film", which has maliciously maligned Prophet Muhammad.

TENOM: Langkah Kementerian Pelancongan Persekutuan (KPP) membenarkan pemandu pelancong asing dari Korea bekerja dinegara ini khususnya diSabah walaupun dalam keadaan terpaksa untuk memenuhi keperluan tersebut tetapi tindakan itu bukanlah sesuatu yang sebijak bijaknya dalam mengatasi masalah kedatangan pelancong luar hanya kerana isu 'bahasa'.

Malahan KPP telah diwujudkan begitu lama tetapi agak mengejutkan banyak pihak kerana isu 'bahasa' menjadi kekangan untuk melayani mereka mengakibatkan negara ini terpaksa tunduk kepada kemahuan mereka supaya melantik pekerja asing untuk tujuan itu.
