KOTA KINABALU: Corruption and abuse of power in the Sabah Native Courts is so bad that even Chinese nationals from Hong Kong and Taiwan have managed to become “natives” in the state, according to Chief Judge of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak Richard Malanjum.

“There are citizens from Hong Kong and Taiwan who have been given the status of native (anak negeri). Judges of the Native Courts gave them the ‘Sijil Anak Negeri’. There are cases, it is a fact.

Now rakyat wants Anifah to be replaced in Kimanis !

KOTA KINABALU: In what appears to be an open confrontation for change, ‘hundreds of Umno members’ in P. 176 Kimanis are demanding that a new candidate be allowed to contest in place of Datuk Anifah Aman to represent the P. 176 Kimanis constitutency in the next general election.

In an interview here yesterday, leaders of the group which are mobilising what they call a Leadership Transformation Movement, said they are demanding for this change because Anifah, who is Malaysia’s current Foreign Minister has been in the Member of Parliament for the area too long and it is time to replace him. So far three demonstrations to voice out this demand had been held, the first in Dewan Kg. Pimping on January 21, 2012, the second in Dewan Lama Pekan Bongawan on the following day, and the third for two days on January 23 to 24 in Dindong, Kg. Bambangan, Membakut.

Pope Benedict, Saudi Grand Mufti warn of social networking

Pope Benedict XVI and Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti have called on their followers to “exercise proper discernment in the face of the surcharge of stimuli and data” on the Internet. The two religious leaders also urged followers to take social networking seriously and to understand these sources “should not” be the source of their knowledge.

Saudi Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh said that followers must be wary of social media, including Facebook and Twitter, as “they do not know the source of those comments.”

Borneo Alliance gathers steam

KOTA KINABALU: Four key Sabah-based groups are set to meet “officially” for the first time to discuss the formation of an alliance called United Borneo Alliance (UBA) and possibly discuss allocation of seats among themselves in preparation for the general election.

Representatives from the State Reform Party (STAR) Sabah chapter, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Sabah Peoples Front (SPF) and the new Usno, which is seeking registration, will be meeting coordinators of the United Borneo Front (UBF), the initiators of the alliance, here today.
