Silence of KDM giants disappointing

Come Sunday, the full list of candidates for all constituencies in the 13th General Election, will be known. Between nomination day up to voting, more crossovers from opposition parties to BN component parties or vice-versa can be expected starting with the ‘ditching’ of DAP by two Kadazan leaders in Sabah.

The purported reason behind the crossovers was due to KDM’s main leaders launching a so-called ‘Gelombang Tataba” a vision that would bring golden opportunities for the people through the unity of the three KDM BN component parties.

Anwar after Hindraf over Ministry of Orang Asal and Minority Affairs (Moama)

By Joe Fernandez

Is Jayathas of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), allegedly Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim’s newly-recruited political mandore from Hindraf, trying to say the NGO should not be registered just because his boss doesn’t like it?

It appears to be so judging from his song-and-dance act on Sat at a press conference, for his 15 minutes of fame, on the subject.

Hindraf, or any organisation, has a right to be registered. It's the Registrar of Societies (ROS) which plays politics with registration, on the instructions of Umno, until the matter ends up in Court. Umno doesn't own the ROS.

Lu Kacau Gua, Gua Kacau Lu – Hindraf under Star symbol and flag in Malaya!

By Joe Fernandez
It’s confirmed! Hindraf Makkal Sakthi will be fielding candidates in Malaya under the Borneo-based State Reform Party’s (Star) symbol and flag in the forthcoming 13th General Election on May 5. Star is a national party.

Star chairman Jeffrey Kitingan, in a text message a little while ago said: “Let Hindraf be a big surprise.”

Hindraf chairman P. Waythamoorthy in a text message confirmed: “We are still finalizing the list.”

Tataba Wave emboldens Mahathir and UMNO to strangle the nation

By Ezra Haganez
KOTA KINABALU : Opposition State Reform Party (STAR) has accused that the Gelombang Tataba promulgated by PBS, UPKO and PBRS is nothing but to propel UMNO's "ketuanan Melayu" over Sabahans.

STAR Sabah deputy chairman, Daniel John Jambun, said Sabahans must realise that the Gelombang Tataba was nothing but the idea of UMNO to empower Mahathir Mohamad to help perpetuate "ketuanan Melayu dan UMNO" to overlord Sabahans.

Taib’s our ‘chief campaigner’, says opposition

The Barisan Nasional lives on corruption and all PM Najib Tun Razak
can do is to condone such wrong doings, says Sarawak DAP
KUCHING: If Sarawak opposition wins its targeted 16 parliamentary seats in the May 5 general election, it will be due entirely to Chief Minister Taib Mahmud.
Describing Taib as the opposition’s “chief campaigner”, state DAP said “if he does not step down as promised” the likelihood of an opposition win was very high.
In the 2011 state election, allegations of corruption, land grabs and power abuse by Taib and his cronies saw the opposition wrest an unprecedented 15 seats.
Post-election analysis had pointed out a more than 40% swing in voter support for the opposition in the once strong Barisan Nasional frontiers.

Opposition ‘spoilers’ giving Sabah BN quiet wins

By Luke Rintod of FMT
STAR and SAPP have reminded Sabah DAP and Sabahans that
voting for Pakatan would be a case of jumping from the
frying pan into fire situation.
KOTA KINABALU : Opposition parties DAP, SAPP and STAR have a common enemy in Barisan Nasional. Yet they seem unable to hold it together, constantly kniving each other instead of plotting against their enemy.
This in itself is intriguing and is telling of Sabah’s layered opposition politics which runs deep on distrust.
Yesterday, DAP’s sole parliamentarian Hiew King Chew, accused both State Reform Party (STAR) and Sabah Progressive Peoples Party (SAPP) of being “useless” parties that cannot do anything.
“It is a waste to vote STAR or SAPP,” he had said in statement that lumped the two parties as “spoilers” in the 13th general election.

Indians suffered 56 years of internal colonisation!

By Joe Fernandez
The departure of the British administrators from Malaya in 1957, ostensibly giving independence to the country, meant nothing to the Indian Nation.

Indians soon found that they had exchanged one colonial master for another, from the British to the Malay-speaking communities drawn from the Bugis, Javanese, Minang, Acehnese, Arab Muslims and Indian Muslims, among others. This was the Malay Nation, a people without territory in Singapore, Malaya, south Thailand, Sri Lanka, Madagascar and South Africa.

Election looms but hospital not ready

KOTA KINABALU, 10 April 2013: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) is demanding the chaotic and depressing situation plaguing health care services in the state be addressed without further delays.

SAPP Information Chief Chong Pit Fah said health care services in Sabah have deteriorated to its lowest following the declaration that the towers of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 (QEH 1), was unsafe on 24 October 2008.

Hiew Ignorant of Sabah Rights - STAR

KOTA KINABALU: DAP's Member of Parliament, Hiew King Chew, fails to see the reality of Sabah's dire needs within the federation because he is a member of a Malayan-based party, says State Reform Party (STAR).

STAR Sabah's Information Chief Edward Linggu said this in a statement in response to Hiew who had told voters not to waste votes on STAR and SAPP yesterday. He claimed that  a STAR or SAPP state government wouldn't be able to function because it will be an opposition state even if PR took over Putrajaya, just like PBS government was after it was the state opposition government.

Mere ‘fraud’ not consideration in 13th GE

By Joe Fernandez

Malaysians by and large worry that “fraudulent practices” by way of the electoral rolls and at the ballot box will cheat them out of the Government they want in Putrajaya and in the states. This should not be read as having a Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Government in the Federal Administrative Centre instead of one formed by the Barisan Nasional (BN).

Fraud can work both ways although the outgoing BN, revamped from the Alliance Party in the wake of the searing Sino-Malay race riots of 13 May, 1969, has ruled the country since 1957 when the British left Malaya.

Fraud in Malaysian politics never-ending

By Joe Fernandez

If the 1987 Umno presidential election is taken as one yardstick, the response of the Court may not be in favour of a novel development of the law or, as some would allege, making law.

In that party election, the Court discovered that votes from 30 illegal party branches may have contributed towards Mahathir Mohamad’s narrow 43-vote victory over his challenger Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah. It was alleged that the 30 illegal branches were aligned towards Mahathir. Even so, in a surprising ruling, Judge Harun Hashim declared the entire party unlawful. Had the Judge concluded that the illegal votes may have gone in the direction of Razaleigh, that ruling would not have arisen since the outcome was not affected!

SAPP: New Federal Government will have to honour full autonomy to Sabah or, risk losing her forever

Yong gestures to highlight the inclusion of
Sabah/North Borneo in the Philippines maps;
KOTA KINABALU, April 7, 2013: Whoever forms the next Federal government will have to honour, recognise and respect political autonomy to Sabah, as promised in the Malaysia Agreement, which is the basis for the formation of Malaysia in 1963.

Any attempt to depart from the “letter and spirit” of the formation of Malaysia will only fortify and intensify the Sulu/Philippines claim on Sabah.

President of de-registered PASOK joins PKR

By Ezra Haganez
KOTA KINABALU : Former President of now-deregistered PASOK, Cleftus Mojingol, is joining opposition Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Mojingol who is currently on a business trip in Taiwan, issued his statement to join PKR through his one-time secretary-general of PASOK, Kanul Gindol, in Kota Kinabalu today. Kanul was also a former PKR Sabah state liaison secretary.

Who will the Suluks support?

By Luke Rintod of FMT
Sabah Umno leaders do not believe that the Suluk voters in Sabah have deserted them following the Tanduo stand-off in Lahad Datu between Sulu terrorists and Malaysian armed forces.
“The majority of the Suluk voters are still with BN (Barisan Nasional),” said Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, the principal political secretary to Sabah strongman, Musa Aman.
Many in the BN component parties like PBS, UPKO, LDP, PBRS and MCA share Nizam’s observation.
But deep within the Suluk community in Sabah, cracks are appearing.

Amir Kahar quit job, and later UMNO, to fight BN in Banggi

By Christian Danial
KOTA KINABALU : Sabah Barisan Nasional especially UMNO, is set to lose one of its northern chieftains, Amir Kahar Mustapha, who yesterday quit his UMNO-appointed job, and made known public his intention to "stand in the coming general election".

He quit the post of Inspector-General of Projects, an unglamorous post created to be of ministerial-status but which has little clout and notice.

Amir Kahar, a son of Sabah's first Yang di-Pertua Negara, Mustapha Harun, was briefly a former deputy chief minister under PBS government.

Sabah PKR beats Anwar in naming candidates

This is a test of whether the party leadership is sincere in
its promise to give us autonomy, says Ansari Abdullah.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR, pre-empting any likely ‘hijacking’ by Kuala Lumpur, hurriedly announced its seven candidates for the state’s west coast region.
Tuaran PKR chief Ansari Abdullah said Sabah PKR had “taken the liberty” of making the announcement based on an earlier promise by Pakatan Rakyat leaders, including Anwar Ibrahim, of giving “autonomy” for the state coalition’s decisions.
He said the candidates were himself for Tuaran constituency and surgeon-activist-author Dr Chong Eng Leong for Sepanggar.

Jeffrey tells Sabahans to think local

The Election Commission must ensure that the security personnel
in ESSZONE which encompasses 11 parliamentary and 30 state
constituencies are not postal voters.
KOTA KINABALU: Maverick Sabah leader Jeffrey Kitingan has appealed to the voters in Sabah to unite to protect their homeland from further control and colonisation by Malaya through its local proxies and stooges and to take back Sabah in the coming general election.
Now leading the State Reform Party (STAR) as its chairman, Jeffrey stressed that the appeal is to the people of Sabah across the board, regardless of their ethnicity and religion and whether they were beneficiaries of “Project IC” or not.
“We also urge all Sabahans who are currently away from Sabah to fulfil their patriotic duty and return and cast their votes to safeguard their homeland from being taken over by outsiders,” he added.

PKR "ori" wants Ansari as Tuaran candidate, not incumbent Bumburing

PENAMPANG: Parti Keadialan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah Thursday unveiled a list of seven proposed candidates for the West Coast North Zone.

They are senior lawyer Hj Ansari Abdullah (Tuaran), anti-illegal immigrant activist Dr Chong Eng Leong (Sepangar), Mazhry Nasir (Putatan), Anthony Mandiau (Kota Marudu), Mursalim Tanjul (Kudat), Saidil Semoi (Kota Belud) and Jonathan Yassin, the division chief for PKR Ranau, who is also brother-in-law to Ansari.

Unveiling this was Ansari who is also currently PKR Tuaran Chief in the presence of five of the seven proposed candidates and the various PKR divisional chiefs, in a press conference held at its Headquarters here.

‘Nazri still believes Sabahans stupid’

Where were the laws that federal minister Nazri Aziz
was referring to when the sinister Project IC was
executed to issue MyKads to illegal?
KOTA KINABALU: A senior lawyer here has accused federal minister Nazri Abdul Aziz of “lying” when he said it will be “difficult” for the federal government to re-issue new MyKads for Sabah because it involved “laws” which needed to be studied.
Demanding to know what “laws” Nazri was referring to, Daniel Jambun said: “Nazri is lying and avoiding the proposal. He still believes Sabahans are stupid and can be lied to.
“He has the audacity to say it is difficult to solve the MyKad problem when the solution is right in his very hands.

Taib: Dishonest MACC doesn’t deserve my cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud said that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) does not deserve his cooperation in regard to the exposé made by Global Witness.
“They [MACC] don’t deserve my cooperation because they have been naughty and dishonest with me.
“Let them investigate if they want to victimise me,” Taib said after attending the Barisan Nasional presidential council meeting at the PWTC here today.
Last month, foreign-based NGO Global Witness made a shocking exposé on the alleged corrupt practices involving those linked to Taib pertaining to the sale of native customary land in Sarawak.

Sabah State Legislative Assembly too dissolved today to pave for hot fight in 60 seats

Ezra Haganez
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah State Legislative Assembly also dissolved today, the same day that Parliament was dissolved.

This paved the way for earnest fight in the 60 state constituencies up for grab.

Sabah Chief Minister, Musa Aman, announced the dissolution at 4pm on April 3, four and half hours after Prime Minister, Najib Razak announced in live TV the dissolution of a matured Parliament.

Parliament dissolved paving way for 13th General Elections

PUTRAJAYA: Parliament has been dissolved today paving the way for what has been billed as the ‘Mother of All General Elections’.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the dissolution of Parliament during a live telecast at 11.30am today. Exactly four years ago on April 3rd, 2009, he was sworn in as the Prime Minister after (now Tun) Ahmad Badawi bin Abdullah had resigned as Prime Minister following the poor performance during the 12th General Election in 2008.

In the live address over television, Najib said he had obtained the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, to dissolve the 12th Parliament.

Scientists reportedly discover gate to hell

Digital reconstruction of "Pluto's Gate" (Francesco D'Andria)
It sounds like something out of a horror movie. But Italian scientists say that the “Gate to Hell” is the real deal—poisonous vapors and all.

The announcement of the finding of the ruins of Pluto’s Gate (Plutonium in Latin) at an archeology conference in Turkey last month, was recently reported by Discovery News. Francesco D'Andria, professor of classic archaeology at the University of Salento in Lecce, Italy, who has been excavating the ancient Greco-Roman World Heritage Site of Hierapolis for years, led the research team.

Suluks next big wave after Hindraf's makkal sakthi

By Joe Fernandez
The Suluks are the next big wave in Malaysian politics, indeed a political tsunami, after Hindraf's makkal sakthi (people power in Tamil) in 2008.

Why not?

There are an estimated 800,000 Suluks in Sabah albeit including illegal immigrants. The fear of such a political tsunami is evident in the declaration of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) and the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone (ESSZONE).

STAR ‘candidate’ charged for cheating

Sabah STAR chief Jeffrey Kitingan’s selection of candidates
is not going down well with those around him.
KOTA KINABALU: State Reform Party (STAR) chairman Jeffery Kitingan is facing criticism from within his party after a candidate he named for the Klias state constituency seat was charged with cheating.

The candidate, Jismit Japong, was charged in a magistrate court here on Thursday with cheating a man by impersonating as Sekong Umno assemblyman who is also Ko-Nelayan chairman.

The mortifying blow comes just three weeks after Jeffrey announced Jismit as the party’s candidate.

Swiss NGO warns Taib’s London lawyers

KUCHING: An international NGO has challenged Chief Minister Taib Mahmud’s British lawyers to explain their statement that the Sarawak government “issues licenses for land under very controlled circumstances”.

The London-based lawyers had, in response to an article published earlier this week in British daily The Independent, linking Taib to the massive deforestation in Sarawak, said: “The government of Sarawak issues licences for land in very controlled circumstances… This is an administrative exercise, not political patronage.

“Our client never demands or accepts bribes for the grant of licences and leases.”

ICJ best forum to settle Sabah, S’wak, S’pore questions

By Joe Fernandez
If the Government in Putrajaya is truly honest with itself, it will confront the fact that there’s very little sympathy in Sabah and Sarawak on the ground for the security forces apparently battling it out in Lahad Datu. It’s 50 years too late. They might as well pack up and go home and instead recall the Sabah Border Scouts and Sarawak Rangers.

At the same time, the continuing statements from one Jamalul Kiram III, the Manila press, the Philippines Government and Nur Misuari of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) on Sabah and Sarawak are being viewed in the right perspective.

Pope Francis washes youths' feet at detention center

Pope Francis washes the feet of 12 young offenders,
including women and Muslims
(CNN) -- Pope Francis washed the feet of a dozen prisoners, including young women, at a youth detention center in Rome as part of a Holy Thursday Mass ahead of Easter.

The pontiff poured water over the young offenders' feet, wiped them with a white towel and kissed them.

The act of foot-washing at the Mass of the Lord's Supper is part of the Christian tradition that mirrors Jesus' washing of his disciples' feet.

New security rules: A blessing, a curse

The new government gazette to manage Sabah’s security
strangely enough does not seek to deter intrusion by
foreigners, or cleanse Sabah of illegal immigrants.
By Luke Rintod of FMT
KOTA KINABALU: The federal government gazette to manage public security in Sabah’s eastern area could be both a blessing and a curse to Sabahans.

The gazette which is officially called “Preservation of Public Security Regulations 2013” was published on March 24 and contains four objectives, with 19 major regulations under five parts.

While it failed to give details on how it will beef up security against foreign intrusions in Sabah’s east, the gazette did touch on a few major issues that are expected to be potentially controversial.

SAPP: Conspiracy not to dissolve?

By Datuk Yong Teck Lee
To the gross disappointment of the people, both the BN and Pakatan governments have refused to dissolve their respective legislatures even though their political five-year term has expired on 8 March 2013. Granted that the law stipulates that the five year term commences on the date of the first sitting of the parliament or Legislative Assembly, politically, the five-year term has expired. The current situation in Malaysia, including in Sabah, whereby the Federal and State governments have stayed on beyond five years is unprecedented.

Negri Sembilan Dewan dissolves today, next Pahang and Johore

Come Wednesday night (March 26, 2013), the Negri Sembilan legislative assembly is set to be the first state assembly to be automatically dissolved following the lapse of its five-year tenure since the historic 2008 general election.

This was stated by Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan, who informed that the 36-member assembly would continue to serve in a caretaker capacity until election is called.

He told English daily The Star that its members would, however, not be able to introduce new policies and will cease to function as “wakil rakyat” (the people’s representatives).

Clare Rewcastle launches Radio Free Malaysia to help overthrow UMNO regime

Radio Free Malaysia website under attack
Radio Free Malaysia launched was tonight on MW1359 kHz. However its online site, which was already under enormous pressure owing to widespread interest, came under immediate cyber-attack.

The Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks began around the time the programme went on air and were presumably aiming at preventing people from downloading the online podcasts of the show, the radio station said in a statement tonight.

Anwar’s hand in Lahad Datu isn’t credible theory!

By Joe Fernandez
There is quite a bit of material in the mainstream and alternative media hinting, suggesting and even accusing Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim as the arch villain behind the Lahad Datu intrusion and subsequent standoff.

As the various conspiracy theories go, this is the weakest of them all. We can only await the proposed Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Lahad Datu with bated breaths.

Anwar may have met Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) leader Nur Misuari in Jakarta and Manila, as reported by several sources including Malaysia Today. However, such meetings by themselves tell nothing. Both men were longtime friends. The MNLF Leader may have wanted to catch up with the Opposition Leader because he’s also the Prime Minister in Waiting.

“Ajaran Sesat” by the Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya

For the past one month, the EC Chairman and Deputy Chairman have been flogging the meme ‘ajarasesat. See TheBorneoPost 20th Feb 13 and TheStar 22nd Mar 13. It has clearly become a pattern that should not be left unchallenged as it appears designed to mislead the public.

Having accused unnamed NGOs of confusing the public with “ajaransesat”, the SPR continues its program of confusing the public even more by making public pronouncements that come apart upon careful scrutiny.

Malays must avoid being a Broken People

By Joe Fernandez
If Malays want to avoid being a Broken People, they and others as well, should not get into rhetoric and polemics and the politics of disruption and distraction.

The media, in that sense, is doing a great disservice to the people. They should focus on helping make a difference for the better, not run back and forth between Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim to manufacture news. Every fart from Mahathir is in the news.

We should focus on what brings us together as a people.

Insecurity in eastern Sabah raises questions!

By Joe Fernandez
Hoteliers in Sabah are grumbling increasingly loudly that tourists are canceling too many bookings in the wake of the Lahad Datu Standoff and the on-going mopping up operations by security forces. They worry that things may become a whole lot worse for the hospitality industry in the state before turning for the better, if at all, in the near future.

The state has some 25, 000 hotel rooms to help the hospitality industry rake in some RM 5.2 billion last year from nearly three million visitors. The forecast revenue for 2015, according to Sabah Tourism Board chairman Tengku Zainal Adlin, is RM 15 billion on the high side. That amounts to a quarter of the RM 60 billion per annum that Malaysia presently collects from tourism receipts.

Sulu incursion: Hiding from the truth

By FMT Staff  and Luke Rintod
KOTA KINABALU: As the dust settles on the incursion by a group of armed men from the southern Philippines, the question of who will take responsibility remains hanging. Most politicians in the government have resigned themselves to watching from the sidelines.

Foreign Minister Anifah Aman, the younger brother of Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman, appears to be passively muddling through the crisis.

Cracks appearing in Sabah Umno?

By Luke Rintod of FMT

has, strangely enough, decided to move into ‘active’ politics.
KUDAT: Speculation is high that former deputy chief minister under a PBS-plus government, Amir Kahar Mustapha, is about to quit Umno and join an opposition group.

The former Banggi assemblyman, who is the eldest son of ex- Sabah chief minister, the late Tun Mustapha Harun, is said to have been approached by the members of the Suluk community here to represent them in the opposition in the coming election.
