A little old lady went into the Bank of Canada one day, carrying a bag of money. She insisted that she must speak with the president of the bank to open a savings account because, “It's a lot of money!”

After much hemming and hawing, the bank staff finally ushered her into the president's office.

Sabah announces record 2012 budget of RM4bil

Where does the allocation go?

The Sabah state government has allocated RM4.048 billion for its 2012 state budget, an increase by RM979.62 million compared with the estimated provision for 2011.

Chief Minister Musa Aman, who is also state Finance Minister, said the estimated expenses of 2012 will cover three main components, namely emolument(RM623.66 million), recurring expenses (RM1.120 bilion) and special expenditure (RM2.303 bilion).

MCLM Statement on latest ISA arrests by police

MCLM takes umbrage to the arrest of thirteen religious teachers and Islamic activists who were arrested in Tawau under the Internal Security Act (ISA) by a team of police officers from federal police headquarters Bukit Aman.

Together with other concerned citizens and NGOs, MCLM condemns this outrageous move and demands that the police release these detainees to uphold Najib's pledge on Malaysia Day to do away with draconian laws including the ISA, Banishment Act 1959 and the Restricted Residence Act 1933.

SAS scandal: Angry businessman Ambrose Lee slams Yee for implicating him

(Revisited) After more than a decade of silence, a businessman who was implicated as the hand behind the crash in the unit price of Saham Amanah Sabah (SAS) in 1997 has surfaced to publicly deny any involvement in the fiasco.

Businessman Ambrose Lee broke his silence following last week’s debacle in the state legislative assembly in which his name was, for the first time, directly linked to the debacle.

Lee was known to be the owner of now defunct Suniwang Holdings Sdn Bhd, which bought the MISC blue chip shares from Sabah government’s investment arm, Warisan Harta Sabah Sdn Bhd (WHSSB), in exchange for the North Borneo Timber (NBT) and Sugarbun shares back in 1997.

KUCHING: Sarawak will be another “Sabah” beset with problems of immigrants if the state government goes ahead with its plans to import 600,000 skilled labourers to work in the much- talked about Sarawak Corridor Renewal of Energy (SCORE) by 2030.

“This figure represents 20% of the Sarawak’s population, and an influx of such a number of people will have an impact on the cohesion of the ethnic community of Sarawak,” said Ba’Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian, who is the Sarawak PKR chief.

Naib Presiden PBS, Herbert Timbon Lagadan, membidas pimpinan Pakatan terutama ketuanya Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim sebagai hanya suka menabur janji kosong kepada rakyat Sabah dan Sarawak, sebaliknya pimpinan BN telah terbukti mengambil langkah membantu rakyat miskin di negeri itu.
