Australia's Serco's record of detention shame

Scott Stewart

Documents released to a parliamentary committee into Australia’s policy of mandatory detention have revealed the misery and suffering of asylum seekers in Australia’s Serco-run detention camps.

As of June 30 Australia had 23 detention centres in which 6403 asylum seekers were detained mandatorily and indefinitely. The average period of detention is 299 days. Serco administers these camps with a whopping budget in excess of $650 million.

Shooting incident at Lahad Datu Fish Market, Sabah

OMG, Could this be happening in Sabah and in the town of Lahad Datu? What have the authorities been doing? This is like our Wild Wild West Video, the illegal immigrants have started the takeover of Sabah .... Seeing is believing, the end product of Barisan Nasional Government in Malaysia and Sabah.

Injunksi Senarai Hitam Mykad Projek!

Saudara Pengarang,

Sekian, terima kasih
Salam Hormat,

Najib Transformasi Isa Untuk Survival Politik

Saudara Pengarang,

Federal Govt should subsidize Sabah freight charges

KOTA KINABALU, Sep 15, 2011: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has urged the Federal government to subsidize the freight charges for goods shipped to Sabah, so as to keep the prices of goods in Sabah at par with that of Peninsular Malaysia.

Of how Najib infuriates sugar king Robert Kuok and loses billions for Malaysia

Don’t know how much is true, but BN Govt. did force RK to sell out his Sugar Empire in Malaysia, as they did with many foreign owned companies.

Recently, the government offended Robert Kuok, as a result, the Malaysian economy suffered a great blow! After the official Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Malaysia , the Najib government now really understands Robert Kuok's influence on China !

Paris ban on Muslim street prayers comes into effect!!!

A ban on saying prayers in the street, a practice by French Muslims unable to find space in mosques, has come into effect in the capital, Paris. Interior Minister Claude Gueant has offered believers the use of a disused fire brigade barracks instead. The phenomenon of street prayers, which see Muslims spreading mats on footpaths, became a political issue after far right protests.

Federal Govt ignoring Sabah issues

Failure to address Sabah issues may set the course
for a radical mindset among young people in future
KOTA KINABALU, September 15, 2011: A 'revolution' among young peoples' thinking may be inevitable for Sabah in future, if the Federal government continues to ignore the legitimate plights of the Sabah people, said former Chief Minister Datuk Yong Teck Lee.

Sabah not on the right track if sitting on a time bomb!

By Daniel John Jambun
Former chief Minister and Sabah State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Salleh Said Keruak, had said recently that he believes Sabah and Malaysia are on the right track to achieving state and national targets, and that to him Sabah has already seen tremendous developments “by leaps and bounds since independence,” and that “the federal allocations for Sabah and Sarawak... they are getting a bigger chunk of the federal fund. No one can deny this,” that the per capita income in the state has also increased and increasing and lifestyles have improved and that “we enjoy a peaceful and harmonious state that continues to progress at rapid pace,” he said.

Malaysia Day meaningless unless our rights and autonomy reinstated

CELEBRATING Malaysia Day on 16th September would be meaningless, hollow and empty unless the special rights and autonomy of Sabah and Sarawak as agreed, promised and assured by the Founding Fathers of Malaysia are fulfilled said Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, the founder of the United Borneo Front (UBF).

The Founding Fathers of Malaysia from the Borneo States took great risks to agree and to be pushed and rushed into the merger with Malaya and Singapore to the extent of denying themselves (the Borneo States) the opportunity to attain political maturity first and to enjoy the freedom and practice of self-rule as what is now enjoyed by Brunei.

Yong: Why do Sabahans have to pay more?

Sabahans mourn costlier rice, heavier taxes, higher
costs and Barisan Nasional's protectionist policy.

KOTA KINABALU: Former chief minister Yong Teck Lee has questioned the economic policies imposed by the federal government which have kept the prices of goods in Sabah higher than in the peninsula.

Yong, the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) chief said there was no reason for this to happen  as the government could subsidise the freight charges for goods shipped to Sabah to ensure the prices of goods in the country were equal.

SAPP commemorates 3 years of pullout

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) commemorates the third anniversary of its pull-out from the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government to stand on the opposition side and fight for Sabah's autonomy with the flying of the party flags along the roads throughout Sabah.

Some SAPP members were also seen driving their vehicles proudly with the party flags.

Canada alerted to Taib’s ‘dirty’ assets

Swiss-based NGO claims that several top Canadian political leaders
have taken an interest in the complaints about Taib's alleged
money-laundering activities in Canada.
KUALA LUMPUR: Swiss-based NGO, Bruno Manser Fund (BMF), claimed that the Canadian government is taking a keen interest in complaints raised by BMF about Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud’s alleged money-laundering activities in Canada.

The BMF, however, could not confirm if a formal investigation had been initiated on Taib-family-founded Sakto Corporation for the alleged offence, but said Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is well aware of the allegation.

Sept 16 is a black day for Sabah

By Jeffrey Kitingan

We might as well regard Sept 16 as a ‘Sad Day’ to remember
when we ended freedom and independence to be taken over
and re-colonized by Malaya.
Celebrating Malaysia Day on Sept 16 would be meaningless, hollow and empty unless the special rights and autonomy of Sabah and Sarawak as agreed, promised and assured by the Founding Fathers of Malaysia are fulfilled.

Messing up with Merdeka date

Aug 31 or Sept 16? The people of Sabah and
Sarawak want Aug 31 to be addressed as the
independence day of Malaya, not Malaysia.
Is Aug 31 the independence day of Malaysia or Malaya? Referring to the former, which is what we have for so long been doing, has caused a lot of unhappiness among the people of East Malaysia, that is, Sabah and Sarawak.

As of 2010, the population of the two states stood at six million (3.5 million in Sabah and 2.5 million in Sarawak), representing roughly 20% of the population of Malaysia.

Historically, the term “Malaysia” came into being on Sept 16, 1963. Prior to that, this country was called “Malaya” which in the Philippine national language of Tagalog also means “free” or “freedom”.

Term limit: Jeffrey mocks Sabah Umno men

Sabah's political maverick Jeffrey Kitingan, slams critics who
criticise his proposal to limit the terms of prime minister
and chief ministers.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno leaders are scrambling to kill off any debate on a proposal to limit the terms of a prime minister or chief ministers to two consecutive stints in the top post.

The proposal by United Borneo Front (UBF) chairman Jeffrey Kitingan last week has set off a rash of criticism from leaders and members in Umno, who currently enjoys a stranglehold on the prime minister’s post as well as the top positions in states under Barisan Nasional (BN) control.

Seeking review of Sabah’s status

A grassroots nationalist movement has submitted a 11-point
memorandum to Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman.
KOTA KINABALU: After undergoing profound social and economic changes over the past 48 years, Sabah is entering unknown territory as it marks Malaysia’s birthday today.

Sept 16 may go down as the date when Sabah gave birth to a modern nationalist movement to cope with growing pains and perceived injustices ever since it signed the Malaysia Agreement in 1963.

A nationalist movement called “Pergerakan Sabah Tanah Air Kita” (Our Nation Sabah Movement) has slowly gathered quiet momentum and is seeking a review of the status of Sabah within Malaysia.

The ‘unofficial history’ of our Independence

COMMENT More than 50 years after Independence, Malaysians are still frequently reminded by Umno leaders of the so-called ‘Social Contract’ that was supposed to have been agreed upon by “the three races” whenever the non-bumiputeras demand civil liberties and the end to discrimination.

What happened to MACC probe on Taib?

Sarawak opposition believes that Taib Mahmud must clear his
name in view of the latest German investigation into his
family-linked business dealings.
KUCHING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) must release immediately details of its investigation into Chief Minister Taib Mahmud’s alleged abuse of power and corruption.

The call comes on the heels of reports that the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) has launched investigations into Deutsche Bank on account of its business relations with Taib’s family.

Treachery of the Highest kind???

A recent diplomatic cable released by Wikileaks has a rather ominous entry that pinpoints the then prime minister Mahathir Mohamad as being the perpetrator of a citizenship-for-votes scam, with the alleged direct involvement of the then Election Commission chief.

The cable stated: “During their discussion, Hussin claimed that (former EC head) Rashid admitted his direct involvement in UMNO's shadowy 1990s push to assume political control of the East Malaysia state of Sabah. During that decade, UMNO granted citizenship and Malaysian Identity Cards (ICs) to over 600,000 foreign migrant workers (predominantly Muslims from Indonesia and Mindanao) in Sabah, in exchange for their votes in state assembly elections (ref B).

Kami Bukan ‘Beruang’ Macam Rahman Dahlan!

Saudara Pengarang,

Anything But Umno

We can only surmise that Gani Patail has enough to sink Umno dulu, kini dan selamanya. Just like probably VK Lingam knew too much that he could not be charged with subverting justice by trying to influence in the appointing of judges and just like how Tajudin Ramli knows enough about the backroom deals to warrant the government asking GLCs to stop litigation against him.

Malaysia’s Mahathir: 9/11 not work of Muslims

By Inquirer.Net

KUALA LUMPUR – The long-serving former Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamad says Arab Muslims are incapable of carrying out the 9/11 attacks on the United States that killed nearly 3,000 people.

The ageing firebrand, who was in power in Malaysia at the time of the attacks and stepped down in 2003 after 22 years in power, slammed former US president George W. Bush ahead of the 10-year anniversary Sunday of 9/11.

Umno attacks fuelled by fear of true history, says Mat Sabu

By Shazwan Mustafa Kamal, The Malaysian Insider

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Umno’s attacks on PAS for allegedly backing communists are fuelled by fear their version of history will need to be rewritten once the truth surfaces, Mohamad Sabu charged last night.

The PAS deputy president said Umno’s smear campaign against him through Utusan Malaysia — by accusing him of supporting communists was aimed at preserving Barisan Nasional’s (BN) own version of history and how Malaysia achieved its independence.

“They (Umno) are worried that history will need to be rewritten if we push matters further,” Mohamad told a ceramah in Gombak near here last night.

Lip Service Laced with poison

I believe that once you enter into politics, you should know that the truth always catches up on you, and when you begin to flip-flop, people will hold it against you.

By Douglas Tan

Ever since I was young, my father has taught me that when you tell lies, it is far more difficult to remain consistent. You have to tell a lie to cover up the original lie, and you also have to remember what the original lie was in the first place. I believe that once you enter into politics, you should know that the truth always catches up on you, and when you begin to flip-flop, people will hold it against you.

Tambatuonites, learn it from us the victims of Baram Dam

By Keruah Usit

The beautiful Baram region in northeastern Sarawak is one of the poorest regions in the country.

Now, thanks to the Baram Dam, one of 12 gigantic hydro-electric dams spread across the state, 20,000 inhabitants face the prospect of being resettled, without participating in the decision that will change their life and that of their descendants.

Malaysian procurement system riddled with corruption, says US cable

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — The seedy and allegedly corrupt side of Malaysia’s defence procurement has been laid bare in a US embassy cable, with startling revelations on how Umno politicians, agents, civil servants and military officials receive 30 per cent “commission” on deals.

In a note on the opaque procurement system here revealed by whistleblower site Wikileaks, the US embassy noted that American companies operating here had three main complaints about the system: the lack of transparency, outright corruption, and Bumiputera requirements.

The undated cable sent during the Abdullah administration between 2004 and 2009 also noted that many government tenders do not follow procurement rules.

A US aerospace executive told the US embassy here defence deals were done through shadowy agreements with no tendering process. For example, the then-Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s (picture) sister-in-law arranged a US$400 million (RM1.2 billion) contract to buy military cargo aircraft from Airbus.
The deal was announced following Abdullah’s return from a trip to France.

911 is here once more... Tribute to the three Malaysians who perished

911
By Emmanuel Surendra

9/11 is here. Much has been said about it. And I don’t think we’d need another post telling us the logic of it or a comparative post on post 9/11 thoughts and the Malaysian situation or a delusional one that still lingers in conspiracy. Here’s an interesting testimony found here via yangsquare.com. It goes something like this:

PSM kecam sistem kehakiman Malaysia gagal bela HAK TANAH ORANG ASAL

‘Sabah is on the right track to success’

Former Sabah Chief Minister Salleh Said Keruak believes that the
state has progressed by leaps and bounds since Independence.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah State Assembly Speaker, Salleh Said Keruak, firmly believes that Sabah and Malaysia are on the right track to achieving state and national targets.

To him both state and nation have already seen tremendous developments.

But he was just as quick to point out that there was still much more that could be done to meet the desires of Sabahans in general.

Demands for seats increase not as rational as they sound

By Daniel John Jambun
We have noticed that for a while now there has been a lot of proposal to increase the number of parliamentary and state seats, with most of the opposition as well as the ruling coalition members supporting the move. Only Datuk Lajim Ukin has so far expressed disagreement with his colleagues’ proposal. He said this doesn’t make sense because the number of voters in some seats are too small, e.g. his Beaufort parliamentary constituency is only about 28,000 while the Sipitang and Kimanis parliamentary constituencies have only about 22,000 each.

Death Of An Empire

By Dr Nasir Hashim, President PSM

Did I not tell you about this senile Empire ?
With its pompous guardians constipating at its door steps
Festered by collusions, greed, profits, demi-gods and lost directions

But did I also not tell you how they fervently dig graves for others ?
Too sedated and too dumb to realize that’s their very own

Did I tell you how their bastion of power crumbling like nine pins ?
Yet they think that’s progress
So they pride
     Over slogans, promises and innuendoes
Destroying the very dreams that they ever fostered

So the Empire continues to wallow in jaundiced gusto
Shackling the innocence at every twist and turn of time
Claiming victory for their flaccid democracy and justice

Now you are witnessing the Empire’s ‘broken chain of command’
Of misdirected priorities and competing opportunists
Flip flop decisions, casting aspersions and intense blame games
Stumbling to pamper warped truths and spineless agencies
Clamouring and clawing to ‘catch the eye’ of their master

You should also see within their rabid ranks
How hidden agenda so craftily designed
To wrest power and refining character assassinations
     Inventing and reinventing scapegoats
Conjuring wild scenarios to nurture foul intentions
Staging a ‘siege mentality’ through traitorous media pimps

So they declared war against their own people
Yet so afraid of repercussion and their own measly shadows
So they shut themselves
In fortresses of body guards, black magic and gangsters in uniform
Imbuing demented underlings to do their national biddings

Hark
Did you not hear the cries of the down trodden ?
And the roar of defiance transcending all bounds
Hacking away the chains of oppression and exploitation
Persevering through ‘thick and thin’ over smoking gas, chemical waters,
Battering rams, beaten bodies, cracked head, broken ribs, open wounds and
                 Mammoth arrests

Yet waves upon waves of humanity continue to throttle the Empire
Yet its lackeys
Continue to live in denial and lavishing in false comfort
Clutching desperately onto illusions and blatant lies

So this struggle goes on in ever fiery circle
Paralyzing the capitalists, opportunists, parasites, jingoists, racists and power brokers

But then, when the Empire and its lackeys are dead and gone
Will you then resurrect another Empire of the same ?

Nay … the empowered masses will summon the very marrow of your existence
    To deal a crushing blow
       To all pretensions and exploitations.

Scapegoating Christians: Another rotting fish from UMNO to share with PBS UPKO

Christianisation: Another rotting fish from Umno to share with the BNThe Jais-DUMC row is starting to stink to high heaven. Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad has just revealed that the ‘Christianization’ issue was actually concocted by UMNO in a bid to bring down the Selangor state government headed by PKR Mentri Besar or Chief Minister Khalid Ibrahim.

UMNO had allegedly tried to use their stalwarts in Jais or the Selangor Islamic Religious Affairs Department to coax the Sultan into removing Khalid Ibrahim on the basis that he had allowed Christianity to spread in the state.

The Malay cock syndrome

And these challenges are followed by allegations of takde telur, takde batu, takde pelir (which all means no balls or, as the Chinese would say, boh chuntoi), pondan (transvestite), eunuch, and so on.

Calls For Maximum Two Terms For Cm And Pm Posts

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah—Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, Chairman of Borneo Heritage Foundation’s United Borneo Front (UBF), has called upon the Federal Government to put in place a national policy that all Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers vacate their positions and make way for new faces after a maximum two terms.

Isu No. 3: "Kdm (Dan Bumiputra Muslim)

APP Adalah Sebuah Parti Cina"

Komen saya:

Pertama, SAPP bukanlah sebuah parti Cina.

The Making Of A Hero Out Of Our Own Stupidity (Resent)

I received this distressing email from a colleague regarding the death of Bernama’s cameraman Noramfaizul Mohd Nor who was shot while on UMNO Putra’s humanitarian mission in famine stricken Somalia. For those Malaysian soldiers that had served Somalia during the troubled period of the early 90’s would know the dangers fronting them, and UMNO Putra’s humanitarian mission in that god forsaken failed state is to my mind a total waste of time and effort. Noramfaizul’s death was in vain and there is no denying this, and to declare Noramfaizul’s a hero now is the making of UMNO Putra’s own stupidity.

DEATH OF BERNAMA CAMERAMAN by a retired soldier

I write with two emotions – one of sadness and the other of anger. I was just watching the news and am taken aback at this sad episode. One life – a father, a husband, a son an employee and a citizen just gone……….like that.

Shit!!

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Moral of the story:
1. Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy
2. Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend
3. And when you’re in deep shit, it’s best to keep your mouth shut!
