We don’t need Malayan leaders to preach unity

Leaders from Malaya should not teach Sabahans what is
the meaning of racial harmony as we in Sabah have had
the most harmonious relationship, says Yong Teck Lee.
By Luke Rintod of FMT
KOTA BELUD: Sabah Progressive Party president Yong Teck Lee has condemned political leaders from Peninsular Malaysia, including from the Pakatan Rakyat, who come to Sabah lecturing to the local people on how to unite and not be racial.
“Leaders from Malaya should not teach Sabahans what is the meaning of racial harmony as we in Sabah have had the most harmonious relationship,” he said.
“DAP leaders like Selangor Speaker Teng Cheng Kim who came to Sandakan recently should not tell us how to unite. It is in the peninsula that racial disharmony is prevalent,” Yong said in his speech at a family gathering of one of SAPP’s leaders in Kg Kebayau near here yesterday.

SAPP man appointed lawyer for Norikoh's family

KOTA KINABALU : Popular local lawyer Peter Marajin has been appointed counsel for the family of the murdered Norikoh Saliwa from Kota Marudu.

Marajin who is also Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) supreme council member was appointed by the girl's father, Saliwa Madaya, as the counsel to act as "watching brief" for the family in any proceedings in court or for any matters relating to the case.

SAPP-Pakatan: It just ain’t working out

SAPP president Yong Teck Lee is adamant that
the party must stick to its principle that
a Sabah-based party must take the
majority of the state seats.
KOTA KINABALU: Mistrust and uncertainty within Sabah’s opposition politics could well indeed translate into a free-for-all fight at the coming general election.
Yesterday, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) supreme council met in Likas near here and snippets leaked out indicated that things may not be going too well with its alliance with PKR-led Pakatan Rakyat.
Insider information noted that party president Yong Teck Lee implied that if things don’t work out as it should, then SAPP could well be on a collision course with its newly-found allies PKR and DAP in many seats.

Will SAPP-STAR finally deal?

Sabah State Reform Party (STAR) wants a public
commitment from Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP)
and is no longer prepared to be left hanging.
KOTA KINABALU: Will today be the day that local Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) decides who it will bed with and openly declare so?
The party’s supreme council is scheduled to meet today and high on the agenda is its relationship with Sabah State Reform Party (STAR). Up until now, their ties have been “hanging”, with SAPP being seen as “non-committal”.
Currently, SAPP has a foot in Pakatan Rakyat and another in United Borneo Alliance (UBA), an umbrella body initiated by Jefftrey Kitingan as the political front for parties that subscribe to his United Borneo Front’s (UBF) Borneo Agenda.
Jeffrey, who is Sabah STAR chief, has kept the doors open to SAPP and its president Yong Teck Lee despite advice to the contrary from within and outside his party and circle.

STAR Fully Committed to United Opposition Against BN

“STAR Sabah is fully committed to the United Borneo Alliance (UBA) and a united opposition including SAPP, USNO and Pakatan Rakyat to oust the current Umno/BN federal and state governments” reiterated Edward Linggu, STAR Sabah Information Chief, in response to the recent press reportsof Richard Jimmy.

STAR Sabah wish to clarify that while we respect Richard’s personal views, the press reports do not represent the official stand of STAR Sabah.  Perhaps, his reports sadly may have caused some confusion and concerns but we are confident that the people are matured enough to understand the real situation.   For the record, he is not a member of our Supreme Council.

Star will work with ‘any’ coalition that wins

By Luke Rintod of FMT
Jeffrey Kitingan has threatened legal action against those
spreading rumours that his party Star is being financed
by Umno to split the opposition vote.
KOTA KINABALU: If politicians and supporters are holding out for a pre-election pact between the State Reform Party (Star) and the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), they best forget it.
Both parties’ words and actions point to it being a lost cause. But leaders on either side are nonetheless keeping alive the ‘line’ that they are working on a deal which opposition supporters in the state and are hopeful of hammering it out in time.
They have been maneuvering for this since the beginning of the year and if nothing else, their periodic shout outs for a deal has proved they are no closer to it since they first indicated they wanted one.

SAPP buoyant about pact with Pakatan

SAPP and Jeffrey Kitingan-led STAR are expected to
discuss 'anytime now' on how they can cooperate
and put up one-to-one fights with BN.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Yong Teck Lee is optimistic about the ongoing negotiations on seat distribution and election preparations between his party and the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

Yong said talks to work out a deal with local opposition parties that are not under Pakatan’s umbrella grouping had picked up momentum over the past month as general election looms.

He said he welcomed recent statements by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and deputy president Azmin Ali, which “clearly indicated that they had agreed with SAPP including the principle of burden sharing” (of difficult seats) in the 13th general election”.

MP Kota Belud diminta lawat kawasan

Sejak kebelakangan ini Rahman Dahlan
lebih gemar bercakap isu ekonomi
negara, pentadbiran persekutuan dan
kedaulatan bangsa lain sedangkan
kawasannya terbiar.

Setakat manakah kejujuran bn selepas pecah tanah?

Naib Ketua Pemuda SAPP, Rudy S. Mairi

Slighted by Anwar, SAPP out in the cold

By Luke Rintod of FMT
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) appears to have parted ways with Pakatan Rakyat after initially showing signs of building ties with the peninsula-based opposition coalition.

The fallout stems from PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim informing SAPP president Yong Teck Lee that Pakatan was now bringing in Lajim Ukin and Wilfred Bumburing as his new trusted warlords in Sabah.

That decision was made known last month in a meeting room at a hotel here when Anwar met Yong and Jeffrey Kitingan, the Sabah chapter chairman of Sarawak-based State Reform Party (STAR).

Villagers cried foul over land

KOTA KINABALU: Instead of enjoying the wealth of toiling on the soil in Kampung Serudong Laut, Tawau, the villagers there are instead faced with a dilemma after discovering that they are not the owners of the land.

What saddens the villagers most was that the land they worked so hard on to eke out a meagre living are supposed to be theirs based on Native Customary Right (NCR).

They brought their plight to the attention of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Vice President cum Tawau Member of Parliament Datuk Chua Soon Bui who assured them of her assistance to get to the bottom of the matter.

Perkemaskan TOR sebelum RCI dilaksanakan, SAPP

Naib Ketua Pemuda SAPP, Rudy S. Mairi

‘No need to be God, just do your job’

By Queville To of FMT
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Dr Yee Moh Chai has come under fire for double talk with his remark that he cannot promise that the historical site of the High Court in the city will remain untouched by developers.

Yee said he simply could not tell the people that nothing would happen to the land that is occupying a prime spot in the city centre in future as he “is not God”.

‘BN and Umno leaders pawning Sabah’

By  Queville To of FMT
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has denounced Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahaman Dahlan’s view that Sabah is just one of the 13 states in Malaysia.
SAPP supreme council member Peter Marajin accused Abdul Rahman of denying Sabah’s autonomy by twisting the history of the proclamation of Malaysia in Sept 16, 1963.
“The proclamation of Malaysia read by Donald Stephens at Padang Bandaran on that particular day that Sabah is one of the 13 states in Malaysia does not mean Sabah’s status is the same as Perlis or Kedah in Malaya at that time. It is only a question of convenience that such proclamation was pronounced.

STAR to contest only 32 DUN seats, says deputy

By Awang Ahmad Sah Awang Sahari
KOTA KINABALU: I am responding to the piece put up by the deputy president of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Amde Sidek, in FreeMalaysiaToday days ago on issues related to SAPP - Star relations vis-a-vis negotiations for seats at the coming general election.

Although we all subscribe to one communal politics through the so-called multi racial politics, all political parties must be realistic on the issue of which party is more acceptable by the grassroots.

All opposition parties must be sincere if they are serious for a one to one fight against the Barisan Nasional. You can't go to a negotiating table and say you want 40 (out of 60) seats which by itself doesn't help much to achieve a one to one fight.

Public land: Musa gets ultimatum

City dwellers are concerned about the grand
sell-off of public property by the state
government under Chief Minister Musa Aman.
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) will use all means to ensure prime public land in the city is not sold off by the Barisan Nasional state government under Chief Minister Musa Aman.

Two opposition state assembly representatives, Liew Teck Chan (Likas) and Melanie Chia (Luyang), will raise issue of the status of the Kota Kinabalu High Court and City Library land at the coming State Legislative Assembly sitting later this month.

They said they would demand a debate on the issue as long as there is no guarantee by the chief minister that these two pieces of land would be reserved for public use. They announced their intention during a news conference held at its Luyang office here.

All must stand up against racist taunts!

By Joe Fernandez
We cannot continue to tolerate a situation where people hurl racist remarks against us and taunt us whenever we want to be heard or give a hearing to others.

Indians in particular must shed the image of being soft targets. They need to speak up so that they can be heard.

Even one ounce of Indian blood, for example, is enough for others to defecate all over us for this reason and no other.

Star upset with Sapp ‘dirty tactics’ mulls options

By Joe Fernandez
It appears that ties between the Sabah chapter of the Borneo-based State Reform Party (Star) and the Sabah Progressive Party (Sapp) could be “much better” if not for the latter’s insistence on contesting in 40 state seats and almost a third, about five to seven, of the parliamentary seats in Sabah. The party reiterated this stand at its meet on Sun in Kota Kinabalu.

Before the 40/5-7 Sun announcement by Sapp, Star had been publicly toying with the “goodwill gesture” of conceding two state seats -- Likas and Luyang -- and one (Tawau) of the two parliamentary seats it (Sapp) won in 2008 as a member of the ruling BN. Star itself had announced in mid-April that it would go for all 60 state seats at stake in Sabah and 26 parliamentary seats including Labuan.
