I am very proud of my 2 younger children who were with me at Bersih 3.0 (my eldest is in Japan). They braved the tear gas, chemical-laced water and intimidation by the police and riot squad - they refused to leave until 4 pm, the official time that the organisers informed the rally would end. In the process, my son, Aaron was badly affected by the tear gas when he went forward to the "frontlines" to take pictures of the Police. I had to restrain my daughter, Audrey from following him.

Nazri Balas Dendam Terhadap Ambiga
“Dia itu bukan sesiapa pun. Tidak ada ‘locus standi’...", ujar Nazri Aziz. |
Anti-apostasy rally dangerous and will sow tensions
Unlike Bersih, Himpun gets super-fast permit but denies Umno links |
This is in sharp contrast to the long drawn out saga involving the Bersih 2.0 rally for free and fair elections, which was outlawed and ended up with Prime Minister Najib Razak reneging on his promise to allow the rally to take place in a stadium of Bersih's choice.

Sarawak’s ‘Red Rally’ earns Bersih support
By Keruah Usit
The ‘Red Rally’ for democratic reforms in Sarawak on Saturday has won the support of election reform coalition Bersih 2.0 and has drawn – predictably enough – police scrutiny.
Bersih 2.0 had invited two leading ‘Red Rally’ organisers from the Movement for Change Sarawak (MoCS) – leader Francis Siah and Kuala Lumpur co-ordinator Ronald Sia – to its steering committee meeting last Thursday.

Ambiga thanks PSM 6 for taking the heat for Bersih
Bersih 2.0 may have had its fair share of persecution from the authorities, but it was guilt over the detention of six PSM detainees under the Emergency Ordinance which haunted the steering committee days prior to the July 9 rally.
Boss beaten up by employees 伙计打老闆?
Govt still denying the Police did not shoot tear gas or water cannon into Tung Shin Hospital. Govt still insists Bersih 2.0 supporter was violence when they were walking peacefully, chatting, singing, laughing and smiling. Govt insists they have video to show that Bersih 2.0 were the one who started violence.
Very moving article on Bersih rally
EYEWITNESS I am a middle class Chinese Malaysian, who works in an investment bank in Johor Bahru. I first heard about Bersih and its idea only around June 20, 2011.
I never knew the previous Bersih rally in 2007, and all the people involved then. But right after I heard about it, I knew that it was very important and every decent Malaysian had to support it.
Therefore, I asked around my friends to car pool over from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur to join the event.

Najib Snubbed By UK PM?!
The flash crowd that turned up to boo Najib’s event at Mansion House (the official residence of the City of London’s Mayor) was larger than yesterday’s outside Downing Street. They had been joined by Amnesty International, who have spoken out about the treatment of the Bersih demonstrators at the weekend. Amnesty commands considerable respect in the UK.
Cabbie says Bersih good for business
“I wish I could cope,” a taxi driver tells our reporter. |
A cabbie who drove a FMT reporter from Jalan Tun Sambanthan to Bangsar during the Bersih rally said he, like many others in the business, was not able to cope with the day’s demand for taxis.
Q&A: Malaysia’s Ambiga Sreenevasan
An estimated 20,000 protesters gathered in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to call for reforms to Malaysia’s electoral system. The surprisingly large turnout—and the government’s tough response, with water cannons and tear gas—appears to have galvanized the country’s opposition, which until recently had struggled to gain traction against a government led by Prime Minister Najib Razak.
The protesters believe Malaysia’s government must reform to reduce electoral fraud and create a level playing field for all parties, including the opposition. Government officials say rally organizers were trying to embarrass the government, garner sympathy for opposition politicians and threaten social order.
Rantings by MM: My Bersih 2.0 experience
So I went.
I have to say that the night before I had many many misgivings, especially after reading about the army doing exercises with the FRU. Could the government seriously be contemplating shooting their own people? Who knows? My stomach was in knots thinking about the many young people I knew who were intent on going, including my daughter. Would I be able to forgive myself if something happened to them?
Tengku Adnan explains Bersih crackdown to Jakarta
KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 — The Najib administration took the unusual step of sending Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor to Jakarta to explain Saturday’s Bersih rally and allay fears of unrest as Indonesia’s oldest English paper criticised the crackdown.
ALERT: Guidance on BERSIH Rally (RAHSIA)
Source
By most accounts, the Bersih 2.0 protest on July 9 could turn out to be massive and will certainly go beyond issues of fair and free elections. With over 100 political, NGO and right groups could be joining the “March for Democracy”, we expect them to champion a slew of issues ranging from inflation to Teoh Beng Hock and Lynas. The protest, if not countered, could undermine the government, the economy and national security. This note sets out the policy guidance and the do’s and don’ts in managing the issue.
