PRESS STATEMENT FROM UNITED BORNEO FRONT

“UBF: REVIEW SABAH’S PETROLEUM SHARE WITH PETRONAS”

25TH January 2011

Kepayan, Sabah—At a ‘Borneo Tea Party’ hosted by United Borneo Front (UBF) supporter, Andrew Joseph Tuining, in Kampung Ganang, Kepayan, UBF leader Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan suggested that Sabah’s petroleum share of 5% be reviewed.

In response to a question from a young guest as to how a unilateral decision could be made by the State Government to sign away oil rights to PETRONAS in 1976, Dr. Jeffrey confirmed that by the Petroleum Development Act of 1974, PETRONAS is granted the exclusive right in perpetuity to explore, exploit, win and obtain petroleum onshore and offshore in Malaysia; the rights, liberties, powers and privileges of which shall be irrevocable. In return for this, Section 4 of the Act states that PETRONAS shall make cash payments to the Federal Government and relevant State Governments (where oil is derived) as may be agreed between the relevant parties.

Guidelines For Muslims Celebrating Religious Festivals Of Non-Muslims

The 68th muzakarah of the National Fatwa Committee for Islamic Religious Affairs on April 12, 2005  discussed the Guidelines For Muslims Celebrating Religious Festivals Of Non-Muslims. The muzakarah has decided that:
In determining the non-Muslim celebrations that can be attended by Muslims, several main criteria should serve as guidelines so as not to contradict the teachings of Islam. The criteria are as follows:
  1. The event is not accompanied by ceremonies that are against the Islamic faith (aqidah).
The meaning of “against the Islamic faith (aqidah)” is a thing, act, word or situation which if conducted will lead to tarnishing the faith (aqidah) of Muslims.
For example:
  1. to include religious symbols such as the cross, installing lights, candles, Christmas tree and so forth;
  2. to sing religious songs;

Malay problem root of nation's problem

A year or so ago, during UMNO assembly gathering, Hashimuddin showed his kris (Malay warrior sword a symbol of ketuanan malayu). The following year, at the Gerakan Assembly Dr Koh Su Kun showed his Sau Lin sword seemingly to compare whose is longger... today the bronze Kris which was errected by Tun Mustapha near the Secretariat building at Sembulan had disappeared for good and even the Sabah Museum staff didn't know where it went. it seems that the ketuanan melayu is slowly deminishing...

---Malay problem root of nation's problem

By AB Sulaiman
About a year and a bit ago, the Old Boys' Association of the Royal Military College otherwise known as 'Old Putras' organised an evening of discourse.
The forum noted that the Malaysian people were fragmented, the economy at a virtual standstill, and democracy eroded by dictatorship, returning feudalism, and theocracy. Those present wanted to analyse the degeneration and like good citizens we were to come up with some solutions.

It was then that one speaker, Mohd Dahan if I remember correctly, who stood up to say, “Solve the Malay problem, and you solve the country's problem.” Now we are in the first month of the second decade of the 21st century, the ring of truth in his statement still prevails.

Power rates can be 17% cheaper

LABIS: The Barisan Nasional government must reduce electricity rates by at least 17% to prove that it is not enriching its cronies at the expense of ordinary citizens, Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua said today.
“BN has long chosen to abandon the rakyat in the interest of its cronies” by giving independent power producers (IPPs)  RM6.2 billion to RM8.1 billion a year in annual gas subsidies over the past five years,” he told voters here as campaigning for the Tenang by-election heated up.
“These subsidies allow the IPPs to make billions in additional profits.”
Pua rejected the argument often given by “these BN cronies” that the subsidies were passed on to consumers.
He compared Malaysian rates to those of Thailand. In both countries, natural gas makes up 70% of the fuel used for power generation. Because of the subsidies, the price of natural gas to Malaysian IPPs is 53.7% cheaper than the rate paid by their Thai counterparts. However, Malaysian consumers get their electricity at a rate only 8% cheaper.
