STAR reveals its "kawasan tumpuan"

KOTA KINABALU : The Sabah chapter of State Reform Party (STAR) would most likely contest in about 40 out of 60 state seats and 16 of the 25 parliamentary seats at the impending general election.

STAR Sabah deputy chairman, Daniel John Jambun, in a late press statement here Friday, said the state leadership under Dr Jeffrey Kitingan had decided on this and that the next thing the party will do is introduce its candidates ahead of the poll.

Malaysia, you failed us !

KOTA KINABALU : United Borneo Front (UBF) chairman Jeffrey Kitingan said it is now very clear that Malaysia and successive Prime Ministers including the current one, Najib Razak, have failed Sabahans miserably as far as security and safety are concerned.

"Now that the fear felt by Sabahans have become a reality, Najib as the current premier, must not only guarantee the security of Sabahans but he must also restore their confidence because security was the number one reason why Sabahans agreed to be part of Malaysia in 1963," he said in a statement here today.

BANGKOK : Prime Minister Najib Razak’s promised reforms did not significantly improve legal protections for basic liberties in Malaysia, Human Rights Watch said today in its World Report 2013. Press restrictions, the use of excessive force against peaceful demonstrators, and intimidation of rights groups exposed the limits of government adherence to internationally recognized human rights.

In its 665-page report, Human Rights Watch assessed progress on human rights during the past year in more than 90 countries, including an analysis of the aftermath of the Arab Spring.

Stop bullying the Christians, warns Star Women Chief Melanie Annol

PENAMPANG : Yet another leader of the Sabah chapter of the State Reform Party (Star) has cried foul over what she called obvious religious discrimination against the native Christians in the state.

Sabah Star Women Chief, Melanie Annol, in a statement, said there had been increasing reports and claims that both the Federal Government and State Government willfully sidelined native Christians in job opportunities and promotions in public service and government-linked bodies in the state.

Unhappy Patrick Sindu quits Star for PKR

PAPAR : Public figure Patrick Sindu is quitting State Reform Party (Star) to join a Peninsular oppsosition party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

He will do so at a PKR function at 2pm in Kampung Sungkadon, Papar tomorrow (Jan 5, 2013).

"There is a ceremony on the resignation of Star members in P175 Papar tomorrow, to be witnesed by PKR President, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail," said one of his text messages intercepted by Borneo Herald today.

: A veteran political activist who was once with Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) said many among the Barisan Nasional leaders in Sabah had at many times told crowds that BN stands for "Barisan Nah Sial".

Fredoline Edwin Lojingki, 71, who is now with opposition State Reform Party (Star) said he could name these hypocrite leaders who are now heaping praises after praises on BN and its corrupt leaders.

KOTA KINABALU : Maverick politician Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said Prime Minister Najib Razak must undo the "greatest injustice" his late father Razak Hussein did in "signing away" Sabah's oil and gas resources to Petronas in 1975.

"How can (then) Prime Minister Razak give away something that does not belong to him as Prime Minister?" Dr Kitingan said at his press conference here Wednesday, showing reporters copies of documents on the issue.

Three-lane roads on all hilly parts in Sabah, says Star Jalibin

RANAU : The State Reform Party (Star) is of the opinion that all roads on hilly parts in Sabah, especially the lengthy stretches, must be upgraded into at least a three-lane road for safety and convenient usage.

Star state committee member, Jalibin Paidi, said Star leaders have received complaints and they have gone for close observation on these roads and indeed, the single-lane or even two lane roads on hilly parts like those in the Tuaran - Ranau and the Kota Belud - Kudat are in great need of upgrading.

PENAMPANG : The proposed Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the illegal immigrants in Sabah and the issuance of Malaysian documents to them, shall include investigation on the rampant issuance of Bumiputera certificate to those unqualified to get it, said a veteran activist, Fred Lojingki

"Being a 71 year old activist, i have seen with my own eyes documents whereby granting even pure Chinese the status as Bumiputera when they could not even trace indigenous blood in their family tree," he claimed in a statement here Thursday.

RANAU : The Star Reform Party (star) head for Ranau division, Jalibin Paidi, had asked the Barisan Nasional state government if it is true that management of the two popular tourist attractions in Ranau had been "surrendered" to Singapore !

Jalibin said it has been a hot topic among people in Ranau that the Kinabalu Park, whole or part of it, and the popular Poring Hot Spring near here had its management "transferred" or "surrendered" from Malaysian authority to Singapore companies.

KOTA BELUD : Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) said the recent pledge made by DPM Muhyiddin Yassin to asphalt six important rural roads in the Kadamaian state constituency next year is an insult to the people's intelligence.

SAPP's Kota Belud CLC vice head, Peter Marajin said the Kadamaian folks were not amused when Muhyiddin further revealed that he had instructed Minister of Rural Development and Regional, Shafei Apdal, to bring forward the fund for the purpose from 2014 to next year.

PAPAR : A one time deputy president of Barisan Nasional component party, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), Baharudin Nayan, has quit the party to join opposition State Reform Party or STAR.

Ranau could be the poorest district, says STAR

RANAU : Ranau, a district surrounded by the rural-most parts of several poverty stricken districts, could be the poorest in Sabah, claimed State Reform Party (STAR) divisional head for Ranau, Jalibin Paidi.

Jalibin said, while it was never mentioned that Ranau is the poorest, the fact that it is at the centre of Sabah and that it is adjacent to the notoriously rural parts of Kota Marudu, Beluran, Tongod, Tambunan, Keningau, Kota Belud and Tuaran districts, might have concealed real facts on poverty in the district.

STAR conducts training for its poling and counting agents

TAMBUNAN : The Sabah chapter of the State Reform Party (STAR) planned to complete training its polling and counting agents (PACA) by end of April in anticipation of the impending general election, its state secretary Guandee Kohoi said here today.

Guandee said, today (Sunday) about 200 of its potential PACAs from the three state constituencies under the Keningau parliamentary seat attended a one-day PACA training held at the Tambunan Valley Resort Centre (TVRC).

New movement demands 70% oil royalty for Sabah and Sarawak

KOTA KINABALU: A new citizen movement has demanded that oil royalty for Sabah should be at least 70 percent and not below to compensate the losses Sabahans incurred under a mere 5% royalty all these years.

Oil for Future Movement (OFF) chairman, Phillip Among, said on top of that oil royalty for Sabah must be backdated to 1976 and a statutory 8 percent interest per annum should be paid.

KENINGAU: Over 2,000 enthusiastic crowd turned up at the joint launching of three divisions of State Reform Party (STAR) Sabah chapter at a food court hall near here yesterday.

The three STAR divisions are Keningau, Tenom and Pensiangan. Its chairman here, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, launched them in front of an enthusiastic crowd which often disrupted speeches by the party leaders

Kuamut surrendered bundles of NCR evidences to STAR

LUYANG: The Kuamut State Reform Party (STAR) committee recently handed over to state STAR bundles of evidences of Native Customary Rights (NCR) lands of the Tambanuo community within Kuamut and Sukau constituencies in Kinabatangan area.

A local Tambanuo leader, James Ait, who is also STAR Sabah chapter state committee member presented the documents to STAR Sabah chapter chairman, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan at his office in Damai, Luyang.
