pengurusan Parlimen menghadkan akses rakyat biasa
untuk ke Parlimen dan bersuara melalui sidang
media hanya akan merendahkan martabat dan
kedudukan Parlimen.

PETALING JAYA: Pengarah Strategi PKR Rafizi Ramli mendakwa larangan menggunakan ruang sidang akhbar di Parlimen oleh bukan anggota parlimen yang berkuatkuasa serta merta sengaja dibuat untuk menghadkan pergerakannya.

“Saya memang sudah menjangka tindakan seterusnya yang akan diambil oleh Datuk Seri Mohamad Nazri Abdul Aziz adalah dengan menggunakan kuasanya untuk menghalang saya dari membuat sidang media di Parlimen.

“Beliau seharusnya sedar bahawa Parlimen adalah institusi tertinggi milik rakyat di negara ini. Ia wajar disemarakkan dengan isu rakyat baik di dalam atau luar dewan,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan media hari ini.

Tegas beliau, “tindakan Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri itu dan pengurusan Parlimen menghadkan akses rakyat biasa untuk ke Parlimen dan bersuara melalui sidang media hanya akan merendahkan martabat dan kedudukan Parlimen.

Shafie puts foot in mouth about Sabah oil and basic politics

KOTA KINABALU: In Datuk Shafie Apdal’s comment about the opposition’s promise to give 20% royalty for its oil if it was voted to power, he stressed only two important points, that is, Sabah shouldn’t take 20%“because it needs to share its wealth” and “the opposition should not makes promises that causes rift among the people.”

 

I have one thing to say about what he said: these are some of the dumbest and most idiotic statements we have heard in the political history of Sabah. It is no better than when Datuk Salleh Said Keruak said the people should blame themselves for the increase in illegal immigrants in Sabah, or when Tun Mahathir said the illegals in Sabah should be given citizenships because they can speak Bahasa Malaysia!

 

Palm Oil Companies unite to protect Malua BioBank’s threatened wildlife

KOTA KINABALU: In a breakthrough step, four Malaysian palm oil companies (IOI Corporation Berhad, TH Group, Kwantas Corporation Berhad, and Perbadanan Kemajuan Pertanian Selangor) today announced the Malua Wildlife Conservation Agreement – a unique partnership with the Malua BioBank that aims to improve the protection of threatened wildlife in the Heart of Borneo.

Malua BioBank, Sabah Government and the four companies are pioneering a new approach to protect wildlife from illegal hunting in Sabah as this remains a significant threat in the state.  Malua BioBank is an innovative conservation project covering 34,000 hectares of lowland rainforest, which aims to protect wildlife, including through the prevention of illegal hunting. The Agreement recognises the importance of the palm oil industry to work with partners to ensure that Sabah’s significant biodiversity is protected.

De facto law minister Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz said that he sees no problem with his son driving businessman Michael Chia's Hummer SUV. 

He said that if a certain opposition figure (name withheld due to legal reasons) is not worried about a leaked video purportedly depicting himself having a tryst with a foreign sex worker, then there is no reason why he should be.

Reporters had questioned Mohd Nazri at his office after the allegation on the Hummer was exposed by PKR leaders at the Parliament lobby today.

Who Owns the Oil in Sabah & Sarawak?

The retired Judge of the Court of Appeal explains the problem faced by Sabah and Sarawak, and suggests a radical solution to the East Malaysian states’ oil woes.

Initially, if oil was found within the boundaries of a State in the Federation of Malaysia, it is owned by the State. J.C Fong in his book Constitutional Federalism in Malaysia, wrote, on p. 98:

“But, the subject of ownership of petroleum (today, an important source of national wealth with current high global energy prices), found both on land and in the continental shelf of the States of Sabah and Sarawak which lies within the boundaries of Sarawak, was never a matter brought up to the Inter-Governmental Committee and hence, not included in its Report. Prior to Malaysia Day, the Borneo States exercised powers over petroleum found within its extended boundaries, i.e. the seabed and subsoil which lies beneath the high seas contiguous to the territorial waters of the respective states. With their boundaries maintained by virtue of Article 1(3) of the Federal Constitution, after Malaysia Day, the two states continued to exercise rights over petroleum found within its territories, including those found offshore.”

Trouble in Sabah: PKR’s ‘ori’ vs ‘photocopies’

KOTA KINABALU : There’s  a new catch-phrase greeting in Sabah PKR’s political circles and it is greatly divisive. The greeting is “PKR ori” or “PKR photocopy?”.

“PKR ori” refers to genuine members of the party while “photocopy” addresses those with Angkatan Perubahan Sabah (APS) and Pakatan Perubahan Sabah (PPS) who “refused” to be members of PKR.

APS is led by Tuaran MP who was once deputy president of Upko, Wilfred Bumburing, while PPS is by Lajim Ukin, a former federal deputy minister, who is also Beaufort MP.  Lajim was with Umno and is often referred to as Umno’s westcoast warlord. Their ‘defection’ was much heralded by opposition Pakatan Rakyat.

These parties are now “parked” under Pakatan and and have declared their support of Anwar Ibrahim, PKR’s de facto leader.

Outstanding article by a 22-year old !

It ignores a simple reality: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has already made history by being the first Malay politician to ever actually win more political support through an explicitly non-racial platform.

It is practically impossible to underestimate how Anwar bucked the trend; he has completely turned our understanding of politics in this country on its head.

History has already made it crystal-clear; Malay politicians who try to unite the country by appealing to a common sense of Malaysian-ness inevitably wind up heading into political oblivion.

Dato Onn Ja'afar's political career went up in flames the moment he founded the first multiracial political party in the country, in spite of it having every conceivable advantage - it was literally the incumbent party of the time because of Onn's towering status in Malayan politics.
 

Compulsory mosques in new housing will polarise society

KOTA KINABALU –  The National Evangelical Christian  Fellowship (NECF) Commission on Sabah Affairs (COSA) is against the compulsory building of mosques in new housing projects in Sabah as a blanket policy.

This is our stand in response to recent suggestions that the state government exempt premium on land given up by developers for the construction of mosques, and that a site for a surau or mosque be compulsorily allocated in every low and medium cost housing project, before approval for the housing project is given to developers.
