There is no Malaysia in Borneo, says veteran writer Fernandez

By Joe Fernandez
If you are free to enter a partnership, you are also free to leave it. If you are not free to leave a partnership, then it's not a partnership. It's occupation and re-colonization.

The issue is that Malaysia has no legitimacy in Borneo. If someone steals your land, you have to get it back. Not live as a slave on your own land with the thief.

Leaving or ending a partnership is not secession and cannot be classified as sedition or treason.

Article 160 of Federal Constitution clearly states that the Malaysian Federation, formerly known as the Malayan Federation, is based on the Federation of Malaya Agreement 1948 which was signed by all the states in the peninsula. North Borneo and Sarawak did not sign this Agreement nor did the states in the peninsula agree to North Borneo and Sarawak joining this Federation as the 12th and 13th states.

Both Borneo nations are not IN this Federation.

They are WITH this Federation through the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as equal partners with Malaya.

So, we should be calling ourselves the Federation of North Borneo, Sarawak and Malaysia.

  1. Issue of contention: Malaysia or No Malaysia?

It will soon eat the whole region...

  2. Agreement is just one piece of useless paper when one party later decide it/he/she does not agree to be in agreement. Fighting will ensue depending on interests. For Sabah and Sarawak, im sure your Federal Government would want you both stuck with the poor Malaya's states for the obvious reasons.

Now whether East malaysians have the guts to persevere which ever ways come their way, that is a big question. Right now peoples over the South China Sea seem to be diunited or even those united by common cause do not seem to be well prepared for anything.

They just talk and talk and talk, and this brings them no where to solutions. You guys need to be more knowledgable and observant. Put in place sharp leaders, not just those who can highlight problems / plights of peoples forever but also those who pave ways for solutions, in your advantage.

Personal interests are worse. Work together.
