The winners and losers of GE13

What is crystal clear is that many Malaysians want a system of check and balance.
The Malaysian Insider
Take a bow, Malaysians. You are the big winner from GE13, you have firmly entrenched the two-coalition system in the country. The days of Barisan Nasional (BN) having unfettered power are truly over. The result of 2008 was not a flash in the pan, it merely was the start of a trend. Yesterday, that trend continued and Malaysians gave Pakatan Rakyat (PR) 89 federal and 230 state seats and 51 per cent of the popular vote.
What is crystal clear is that many Malaysians want a system of check and balance.
Now the audition for the next polls begins. It is really up to BN to accept that despite the victory, much is wrong with the BN formula and that the non-Malays, especially Chinese, sought refuge with PR simply because the excesses of BN politics and overt racism in this beloved country have become intolerable.
For PR, today will be tough but the prized jewels of Selangor and Penang still remain in your clutches and your popular vote was some 240,000 over BN, despite facing a machine with billions of ringgit at its disposal.
But the fact remains that many Malays remain unsure about your policies and direction. And without the support of Malays in Malaysia, change is impossible.
All said, Malaysians take a bow. Activism is very much alive in this country and people were willing to speak up for their convictions and political ideals, stepping out of their comfort zones for what they believed. And turning out to vote in record numbers. That is true patriotism.
The other winners from GE13:
● Najib Razak
Though the BN performed worse than five years ago, Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s (picture) position as the president of Umno is secure.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad suggested a month ago that Najib could come under threat during the Umno polls in November if he did not matchTun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s position but the simple fact is that Brand Najib carried Umno to victory this time around.
Yes, money was thrown around like confetti and populist policies were the norm in the run-up to the polls but it is arguable that without his stamina on the stump, Umno would not have won so many seats. Hard to see anyone rising to challenge him from within Umno.
● Nurul Izzah Anwar
Don’t think there is a more loved politician than this woman of grace. Some tout her as a future prime minister but her rise and rise in Malaysian politics is testimony that you don’t have to indulge in muck raking and negative politics to come up.
When Nurul speaks, she talks about hope, so unlike many Malaysian politicians who fear monger. She was carried across the line against the financial might and organisation of Senator Raja Datuk Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin by Malaysians who truly cherish her humility and inclusiveness.
● Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud
He thumbs his nose at the MACC and doesn’t care what people think about his integrity or how well endowed all members of his family are. Why?
Because in Sarawak, he is king. Just before the Sarawak elections, Najib gave him a timetable to retire. Might as well junk that timetable.
He delivered big time for BN and sent a powerful message that he is truly formidable in Sarawak. Sad but true. No doubt helped by a fractured opposition. Any chance of the MACC visiting him soon? Don’t hold your breath.
● Liew Chin Tong
This young man is the architect of the DAP’s victory in Johor. He figured that PR might as well take the battle to the heart of Umno and BN rather than wait to be mauled and assaulted in their own strongholds.
He convinced a few party elders and rising stars to join him in Johor, and along the way, expanded the DAP’s federal seats total to 38 with the combined multi-racial support of Johor.
If there ever was a Johor Way, Liew found it and showed the rest of Malaysia that nothing can stop an idea whose time has come.
● Khairy Jamaluddin
Five years is a long time in politics and it has been a boon for a young man who has matured into an astute politician in his quiet way.
The Umno Youth leader also tripled his majority from 5,746 votes in Election 2008 to 18,357 in the May 5 general election, showing that there are BN politicians whose popularity is real in his constituency and beyond.
He has shown his party that his appeal is beyond the core conservative right-wing elements and that he can reach out to most Malaysians his generation. Umno and BN would do well to keep rising stars like him in the front and centre of their future government and campaigns.
● Bersih
This organisation must take some credit for energising Malaysians to go out and vote. Messrs Ambiga Sreenevasan and others have done a sterling job in making Malaysians understand that voting is a civic duty of every citizen and highlighting the many weaknesses of the current electoral system.
The record voter turnout of 80 per cent and the largely peaceful elections are proof that civil society has a large role and place in Malaysia.

    1. THE BIG LIE ABOUT MALAYSIA-A SHAM DEMOCRACY!

FIRST THEY CAME FOR THE COMMUNISTS, THEN THE UNIONS, THE PROGRESSIVES, & THEN THE CHURCH...

The elections only proves every time that the system is rigged in favour of those in power.

Many misled Malays behave like the German people who voted Hitler into power playing on the same tune of racial supremacy and domination of non-Malays as UMNO does. But they are also waking up to UMNO's deceitful politics.

This time UMNO again played up their racism and fear of non-Malay domination as seen in Najib post election racist remarks "the Chinese Tsunami". Racism underlined whole of UMNO's election campaign to scare the Malayan Malays to vote for them. But the figure show tha many Malays have turned against UMNO's racism and apartheid rule.

The plain facts are clear for all to see that UMNO elites and cronies are the minority class which is monopolising and exploiting the resources and stealing the wealth of the 3 countries in Malaysia. The rules for colonisation of the mind and land has not changed.

They could rule as dictatorship but they themselves have to live a big "lie".

This lie is to show the world that "Malaysia" is a "democracy" to cover up its neo-colonial nature and the fascist annexation of Sabah and Sarawak as colonies with Britain's help.

This is essential to keep the support of the western world which so loves Malaysia as "vibrant and lively democracy" but they keep silent on UMNO'S abuses of our human rights for over 50 year. This is 35 years longer than Nazi Germany had lasted!

As long as UMNO keeps up this pretence the "West" will never believe that the 2 countries Sarawak and Sabah have been re-colonised. Even many Malayans do not want to believe us. They cannot stand the thought of losing their rich resource centres and petrol stations! The Malayan economy will collapse if Sabah and Sarawak pull out of Malaysia.

Compatriots. Sabah and Sarawak is not just their fixed deposit but their guarantee for staying on in power.

These two reasons why Sabah and Sarawak have been so vital to the UMNO regime and Malaya.

Think for just a fleeting second.

Without Sabah or Sarawak there is no Malaysia.

And without our votes there will be no UMNO!

So we are more important to Malaya than Malaya will ever be for us. Not in a millennium.

We can survive on our own as independent resource rich nations free from Malayan control and we may become even better off than Brunei and Singapore!

The elections are part of our hard learning curve to free ourselves from foreign bondage.

The lesson is that so long as we fail to win the poor masses we will remain oppressed slaves and stood on our faces by UMNO Malayan jackboots!

      TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY!

    2. PART OF OUR HISTORY

      North Borneo Historical Society
      April 9

Sheikh Azahari bin Sheikh Mahmud (1928/29–2002), better known as A.M. Azahari, was a Brunei politician turned rebel.

Azahari strongly objected to the Sultan's idea for Brunei's membership in the Federation of Malaysia, along with British North Borneo (which was later renamed to Sabah), Sarawak and Singapore.

" …., there was also doubt about the motives of the possible rebels. What did they want? Much of this has to do with the enigmatic performance of Azahari. In September 1962, The Borneo Bulletin had two statements on the front page from Azahari. In one he talked about a meeting with leaders in Sarawak and North Borneo to press for the creation of “an independent federation of Borneo.”

In the other, in an interview with the Sultan, he pledged the support of his party to the ruler’s acceptance in principle of the proposed plan for Malaysia.

Early in December, Azahari announced that three motions would be proposed at the first meeting of the new Legislative Council:
      (i) Rejecting Malaysia.

(ii) Requesting the restoration of Brunei sovereignty over Sarawak
      and North Borneo.

(iii) Calling for a British grant of independence to a Borneo
      federation not later than 1963.

The Party Rakyat appear to have been genuine in their belief that the findings of the Cobbold Commission were fraudulent and had hopes of popular support in Sarawak and North Borneo.

The Sultan of Brunei saw the uprising as a rebellion against joining the Federation. In this sense the popular mood contrasted sharply with the views of the Sultan’s closest advisors. Many of the appointed members of the Legislative Council were happy in principle to be part of the new Malaysia; though some voiced doubts and concerns over the concessions demanded by Kuala Lumpur.

The Sultan had no intention of surrendering his sovereignty to the PRB by fleeing the country. The Sultan and the people shared one thing in common. They were fed up with the protracted negotiations over the new Federation. The people feared their country would be coerced into joining; the Sultan believed that while Brunei was a Protectorate with very considerable control over its affairs, Malaya was a former colony. "

  44. NOW that the polls are over, let's ponder about the destiny of our country. Congratulations to Datuk Seri Najib Razak who has been given the mandate to lead the country for another five years.

  45. Najib's transformation programmes were a plus point. He is trying his best to accommodate everyone in his plans and we should be fair and give him more time. As a first-term prime minister, he has done remarkably well and I am sure the past four years had been a learning process. He should now know what is expected of him and his government.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Barisan Nasional has done well to secure 133 parliamentary seats. This might be less than what BN won in 2008 but under the present situation, securing a simple majority is a big victory. The onslaught by the opposition was massive, but it was not good enough to translate into votes. BN should analyse and evaluate its performance.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The prime minister must deliver his pledges made in the run-up to the polls. The rakyat will appreciate if he makes good of his pledges. He should also be proud that his party, Umno, delivered the bulk of the votes, both at parliamentary and state seat level. As for the Chinese voters, they were willing to sacrifice MCA and Gerakan so that their voices could be heard loud and clear.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Najib should, first and foremost, choose a credible cabinet line-up. Now that MCA has refused to accept any government posts, Najib has been pushed into a tough corner.

    ReplyDelete
  49. MCA should be represented in the cabinet. It's true that the MCA president has promised that MCA will not take up any government post if it performed worse than in 2008, but in reality, he should also respect the people's decision.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Najib should pick the ministers and members of parliament from the winning list. We do not want losing candidates to be made a senator or a minister. Neither do we want leaders who did not gain the confidence of the rakyat to be in the government.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

PROPOSED NEW UMNO 10 POINTS AGENDA FOR BORNEO (Google Translation )

We thank Allah and hail UMNO BN's GE13 election victory!

We thank the Bumiputras of Sabah and Sarawak who helped us to retain power in the face of false allegations of election frauds. They have have again shown great wisdom in giving UMNO another chance to remain in government.

We also thank our new bumiputra brothers from overseas without whom we would not have won in West Malaysia or in Sabah and Sarawak.

We are eternally grateful to all of them as without them this time our nation would surely have been hijacked by the opposition. We will be safe with them and they will be safe with us.

Here is the proposed agenda for a broaden democratic people's participation.

    1. We support PM Najib's call for national conciliation following the “Chinese Tsunami” and arrests of many unpatriotic seditious anti-national elements! South Africa only had national conciliation after apartheid ended. Germany took a similar step for uniting a greater Germany in 1933. However, we are taking a political leap forward here for national conciliation.

    2. The NEP will be revamped to adjust BUMIPUTRA privileges as there are now more bumiputras in Malaysia to share our national wealth by including many brothers and citizens from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Middle east, Indonesia & Philippines. This is due to Dr. Mahathir's brilliant vision and strategy to increase Malaysia's population to 60 millions by 2020. He was a genius to hire Abu Sayyaf to mass transport 1 million brothers into Sabah to re-structure the population.

    3. According to Dr. Mahathir's 2020 vision and PM Najb's 1Malaysia vision, we will consider taking into Malaya any excess new Filipino and Indonesia migrants from Sahah and Sarawak as they are labour cost effective for Malayan industries. Their votes have also helped UMNO to win the elections and they are rewarded with jobs which Sabahans and Sarawakian have so generously given to them.

    4. As part of national conciliation, we invite DAP to join BN as they now represent most of the Chinese who rejected MCA because unlike UMNO its leaders were only concerned with their own welfare.

We also call on Anwar & other UMNO rebels and PAS to rejoin UMNO. You are forgiven & will be well rewarded. A new deal will be struck with the Indians with MOUs and IOUs. We are all inclusive. This will baring real national unity not what the opposition wants!

    5. We will consider Sabah and Sarawak's entreaties for better oil royalty and more development funds to bring them closer to us, since we have been using their oil to develop the rest of Malaysia. We have been fully aware that they are more than 50 years behind Malaya in development long before the opposition was making such an unnecessary electioneering fuss over this. It is not our desire to make the 2 states dependent on us for their oil revenue but we must first look after our national priorities. And we are doing our best to develop Sabah and Sarawak for 50 years.

We vehemently deny that the bumiputras here have been reduced to “coolies” and certainly deny the claim that life was better before 1963!

PROPOSED NEW UMNO 10 POINTS AGENDA FOR BORNEO (Google Translation)

    6. We thank our bumiputra brothers of Sabah and Sarawak (it is sad they prefer to call themselves “dan Lain Lains”) for their patience in waiting for development which Dr. Mahathir has specially commended them for. They are so understanding to sacrifice their struggle to achieve parity with their Malayan bumiputras brothers so that under UMNO we can gain control of the economy and national resources with GLCs from pendatangs.

This has tremendously improved our bumiputras' standard of living and we are especially proud that there are now so many Bumiputra billionaires (such as Dr. Mahathir who is said to have US$44 billion in overseas banks) and millionaires even though the majority of Bumiputras are still living in poverty and dependant on government handouts.

We however disagree with our respected mentor's description of Sabah Sarawak as "colonies" which is very offensive to their people who consider themselves as loyal 12th and 13th states of Malaya and have so graciously donated their oil to the nation.

They have also donated their land and timber to develop Malaysia.

Some examples of development are the grand Putra Jaya ($20+ bil) Twin Towers ($10+ bil) Bakun Dam ($10+ bil) and infrastructures in the peninsular which have been developed by Dr. Mahathir's family and colleagues' network of GLCs which are all involved in developing our country. God bless him.

    7. We will continue to provide security and prosperity (which was promised by our government as the main justification for forming Malaysia) to Sahah Sarawak with income we make by exploiting their oil.

    8. We have dealt with the Sulu invasion with appropriate force and restored security to Sabah. That is why the people voted for us so overwhelmingly. There was no need to "switch" the ulu votes in Sabah or Sarawak as the opposition alleged.

    9. The constitution will be revised if DAP joins us as we will achieve a 2/3 majority. If PKR and PAS join us it will be 100% majority and we will be a real national unity government. One happy family! 1Malaysia! This will be real “Ubah” for Malaysia! :)):

    10. We will consider any Sabah Sarawak requests for the position of prime ministership as we have already held this for 50 years and for election as the king of Malaysia so we can fairly treat them as equal partners in Malaysia. This is by way of honouring the 20 and 18 Points we signed with Sabah and Sarawak 50 years ago.

We strenuously deny all allegations that we “dumped” these Agreements in 1965 and treated them unequally or that we have taken over and colonised their countries and what Dr. Mahathir has called them as “colonies”. Tunku Abdul Rahman our Bapa Malaysia had declared in writing that Malaya would never colonise Sabah and Sarawak but treat them as “equal partners”.

This is only an unofficial draft document and subject to changes and revision after due consideration by UMNO Supreme Council, UMNO Youth and Perkasa.

  69. SPR telah pun mengumumkan keputusan rasmi bahawa BN kembali menerajui Kerajaan Pusat setelah menang dengan majoriti mudah 112 kerusi Parlimen tepat jam 12.50 pagi.

    ReplyDelete

  79. RADIO AUSTRALIA’S CRITICAL BROADCAST ON MALAYSIAN ELECTIONS

RADIO AUSTRALIA REPORTED ON 09/05/13 (11.20 a.m. Melbourne time) that the Malaysian Police will commence arresting people for “sedition” for speeches made during the recent KL mass meeting by Pakatan.

Radio Australia commented that it would not help with Najib’s “national re-conciliation” if he started arresting opposition leaders.

Folks your Big Brother has returned despite “abolishment of the ISA” and replaced with something worse.

Radio Australia made a list of serious allegations and substantiations on the election fraud and mentioned that the election was only partially fair. Election Commission seen as biased and not independent and lacking in integrity.

BN sowed mistrust between Chinese and Malays How is BN going to ensure that BN “is not ruling for Malays”.

Khairy Kamaruddin defended UMNO’s dirty tricks with good sounding reasons which UMNO never implements in practice to prevent “fraud” but actually perpetuate them.

He accused Anwar Ibrahim of being divisive for not accepting Sunday’s election results.

Would you if the elections were rigged your opponent’s favour?

  81. WE DON'T WANT TO BE A COLONY OF MALAYA!

    North Borneo Historical Society
    January 23

Some recorded historical quotes prior to the Formation of Malaysia by Fuad Stephens ( by Bob Reece,Emeritus Professor in History at Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia.) -

"......my people feel that if North Borneo joins Malaya now as a state, it would in fact mean that North Borneo would become not a state but a colony of the Federation of Malaya.

As I have said before, THESE FEARS ARE GENUINE. Not actually fear or suspicion of the sincerity of Malaya to take us on as an equal partner but more the fear that by virtue of our status as a British colony we would automatically become a second-class state or a colony of Malaya…

We must have at least self-government before we can talk, before we , the people of the country, can decide for ourselves whether we want to become partners in Malaysia. Self-government for us is a pre-requisite to final settlement of the Malaysia question “.

The questions as to why Fuad Stephens made a u-turn regarding the Malaysian Agreement , answers by Dr.Bob Reece in an interview with Daily Express ....." I think Stephens was under colossal pressure. I think KL was exerting a lot of pressure. The Brits were exerting pressure, so that was why Stephens cracked.

And I think the big factor was the British pressure along the lines of, well, 'if you go your way, that's fine but we won't protect you. We will only give you military protection against the Indonesians on the basis if you join Malaysia and Malaysian protection'.

And at that point, things were blowing up in Indonesia."
    ..............................................................

Indonesia opposed Malaysia as a "neo-colonial" scheme to continue colonisation of the Borneo colonies under Malayan rule.

The facts speak for themselves. No self-rule, No Borneonisation, No oil, nothing but poverty.

    Thanks UMNO Malaysia!

    ReplyDelete
  92. “Jika berlaku sedikit ‘kotor’ di sana, sini, ia bukan disebabkan oleh SPR, parti-parti politik, para penyokong mesti menghormati undang-undang, mesti mematuhi garis panduan, mesti mematuhi tata etika (pilihan raya).

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  108. Terdahulu, isu serupa turut dibangkitkan Mohamed Azmin Ali (PKR-Gombak) yangmempertikaikan bagaimana usaha pendamaian nasional mahu dilaksanakan sedangkan kerajaan belum dapat memastikan ‘kecurangan’ dalam proses PRU13 ditangani.

Menjawab persoalan itu, Najib menarik perhatian sehingga kini pihak berkenaan belum menerima sebarang bukti penyelewengan seperti yang didakwa.
