STAR blasts PM on Malaysian history

KOTA KINABALU: State Reform Party (STAR) had blasted the caretaker prime minister for "his ignorance about Malaysian history."

Sabah STAR deputy chairman Daniel John Jambun said that he was utterly shocked by Najib's speech in Bongawan yesterday in which he said that, " Sabah made the right decision to join the Malaysian federation, which paved its path to independence on Sept 16, 1963 ."

"This is really shocking coming from the prime minister, as it shows his ignorance about Malaysian history. He does not know the genesis of Malaysia , his own country," Jambun said. "No wonder the Malayan attitude towards Sabah 's rights and autonomy will never change, all because of this ignorance about historical facts which is also the problem with all Malayan ministers and government officers.

"Obviously Najib needs to be educated that Sabah never joined Malaysia, but formed Malaysia together with Malaya, Singapore and Sarawak. And this creation of Malaysia did not lead to Sabah 's independence. We became an independent and free nation two weeks before that, on August 31, 1963 ."

Jambun, who is contesting for the Sepanggar parliamentary seat under the STAR ticket, he was disgusted by the whole attitude of Najib's speech which was one of brazen condescendence as if Sabah is so dependent on Malaya for its existence and survival.

"Najib should know that without the participation of Sabah and Sarawak there would have been no Malaysia , and Tunku Abdul Rahman knew this," he said. "The Tunku was desperate for the participation of the Borneo states because he knew that without Sabah and Sarawak the Malayan Malays would have been outnumbered by the combined Chinese populations in Malaya and Singapore .

"So having heard what Najib said yesterday, Sabahans need to ask themselves whether it is worth supporting BN/Umno which is still ignorant about our history and our real aspiration within the federation. Sabahans now cannot be sure if the Malayan leaders will ever respect Sabahans or have their hearts truly committed to the wellbeing of Sabah and its future in the federation.

"They think we owe them something big while in fact it is the other way round. We helped the creation of Malaysia , and after that Malaya took so much from us that we became the nation's poorest state. We have become Malaya 's underling and provider state getting very little from the national budget for our development.

"And now the PM comes here and expect us to be thankful. He even tried to firghten us with security matters by saying only BN can defend Sabah ," Jambun said. "He has also forgotten that without the votes from Sabah and Sarawak , the BN would have lost Putrajaya in 2008. Having seen this, it is time for Sabahans to decide to reject BN on May 5."

  1. THE RE-WRITING OF HISTORY CONTINUES

It is important to expose the Malayan BIG LIES on the formation of Malaysia and there are many articles in Borneo Herald dealing with various aspects of this history.

    1. The No. 1 BIG LIE
The British/Malayan cornerstone justification for forming Malaysia was that it would provide "security and prosperity" to the Borneo colonies. This was the British cold war strategy to counter the 1960s anti-British colonial independence movement in Borneo.

UMNO BN is now shamelessly using the Suluk invasion to re-assert this position when BN failed Sabah border security by not preventing the invasion.

It is not defending Sabah or Sarawak when UMNO BN has expedited the invasion of millions of illegals into Sabah and Sarawak to secure its electoral base and control over these 2 countries. At the same time UMNO from the 1970s sponsored the training and harbo”dog bites master” BSRA invasion shows.

Malaya/UMNO was the appointed protege and ally of Britain who was more than willing to assume the British colonial mantle as it had its Melayu Raya agenda which the 18 & 20 Points agreement specifically REJECTED.

This reflected the genuine fears of the Borneo people that Malaya would become the new colonial master. The Suhakam Report confirms as much that the people's fears were correct. The other side of the people becoming coolies in their own land is because they were colonised and plundered by Malaya. This is colonialism pure and simple.

    2. The No. 2 BIG LIE
The Borneo people in North Borneo and Sarawak chose to become part of Malaysia in a referendum dubbed the "Cobbold Commission of Enquiry".

As name "enquiry" indicates it was not a referendum but an "enquiry"! A referendum means a countrywide vote on an issue of national importance. Although the Malaysia issue was of paramount importance for the people- the British avoided holding this referendum specified by the UN De-colonisation protocol.

The element of coercion by the British Malayan is strong and clear.

    3. The NO.3 BIG LIE- The "Racial Balance" argument.
In the 1960s the Malayans had one extra argument to justify Malaysia. PM Tunku A Rahman put forward the argument that the "bumiputras" Brunei Sabah and Sarawak would "help" Malaya in counter balancing the numerically more numeorus Singaporean Chinese when Singapore merged with Malaya.

Why should the Borneo people oblige them?

As Daniel Jambun said “we helped them form Malaysia”!

This big lies was exposed when Brunei (pre-dominantly Brunei Malays) refused to sign the Malaysia Agreement because of equal partnership issues in 1963 and Singapore left in 1965 for the same reasons. Malaya was left with a “bumiputra” majority! There was no issue with this as far as UMNO was concerned. That was how Malaysia came to be.

The original Malaysia concept of 5 independent countries as equal partners was dead.

Malaya hanged to Sabah and Sarawak by stealth by not including them in the Singapore separation talks. PM Razak rejected Sabah CM Donald Stephens' correct call to review the Malaysia Agreement. He was “kicked upstairs” by being exiled as ambassador to Australia. About the same time in Sarawak this erupted into the so-called “Constitutional issue” where CM Stephen Kalong Ningkan was ousted for resisting Malayan hegemony.

While Stephens and Ningkan stood out as men with some principles, our misfortune was that our “leaders” were not strong people who would have uncompromisingly insisted on our national rights In general they were people who allied with and sold themselves to Malayan colonialism as the best was to promote their own self-interests like KL groomed Rahman Yakub and Taib Mahmud and the timber tycoons. Sabah has more than its share of such politicians.

That is how the Malayans wrote our history. There are more Big Lies but will take more space to expose.

    1. Paragraph 4 errata- missing parts of sentence should read as
"At the same time UMNO from the 1970s sponsored the training and harbouring of Filipino insurgent (“terrorists”) groups in Sabah. This is definitely not defending Sabah as the dog bites master BSRA invasion shows.

  2. A confident Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, hailed for the state's sound financial management and state Barisan Nasional (BN) supremacy in the 2008 general election, is once again expected to spearhead the coalition in the coming polls against a disunited opposition in the state.

    1. Firing the first salvo after the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat and the Sabah Legislative Assembly yesterday, Musa, who is also the state BN chairman, called on the people of Sabah not to gamble away their future by experimenting with an opposition government.

    2. "Think wisely before making a decision, and don't gamble away the future of our children and the country," Musa was quoted as saying.

    3. The charismatic Musa led the state BN to a thumping victory in the last general election, capturing 24 of the 25 parliamentary seats and 59 of the 60 state seats, leaving the DAP with the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary and Sri Tanjung (Tawau) state seats.

    4. With negotiations for a possible one-to-one contest or showdown between the BN and a united opposition front in Sabah making no headway, the BN is now in a better position to deliver another double political knockout to its opponents in both the parliamentary and state elections.

    5. The seeds of disunity began to appear within the opposition when Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced here recently that Pakatan Rakyat would face the BN on its own without the support of the state-based parties in the coming general election in Sabah.

    6. This did not go down well with the leaders of the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), a local party that left the BN on Sept 17, 2008, which had been hoping for a strategic alliance to face the mighty BN election machinery.

    10. Short of saying that it might further split the opposition votes and give the advantage to the ruling party, Jeffrey said "every political party is free to field a candidate in elections as it is in line with the principle of democracy as practised in Malaysia".

    12. Salman, a former civil servant with a law degree from Universiti Malaya and a Master's degree from UiTM, said that with the SAPP and the STAR joining the fray with special focus on the issue of the Borneo Autonomous agenda, this would surely be a boost for the BN to repeat its feat of the 12th general election.

    13. "Advantage is definitely on the BN side because, in the political arena, whenever there is a split or disunity among the opposition, the ruling party will always get the benefit," he said.

    20. Salman said the feel good factor towards the good administration of the Sabah government under Musa, especially in bringing about development in all aspects for the people and the acceptance of the new transformation policy implemented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the brainchild of the 1Malaysia concept, would also contribute to the BN's victory in the polls.
